THEN

“If you ever need someone to talk to, someplace to go … my door’s always open.”

NOW

An artist is expecting a prospective buyer. His expectations are low. Studio visits rarely end in a sale. The door bell buzzes and there’s Jack. Hello!

He always seems so pleased to meet new people.

THEN: “Jody Mills is good people.”

NOW

Alex walks out of school hand-in-hand with her letter jacket boyfriend, Henry.  Another friend catches up to them and announces she’s in the presence of royalty. They’re in the lead for prom king and queen!

Alex scoffs at the news. Henry sure, but it seems unlikely for her. She wonders that people even still do that? “I thought it was an 80’s thing.” Henry assures her it’s very much a thing. There are crowns, even. He tells her they should have fun with it. He’ll wear the dress and she can wear the tux. Alex sasses that Henry doesn’t have the boobs for her dress.

They’re sweet and adorable together and yay! Alex has nice things! For now!

THEN: “Promise my family will be okay.”

NOW

Jimmy Novak walks through the front door. He calls his wife’s name. Amelia rushes down the stairs and into his arms. She sobs that she thought she’d lost him again. Jimmy says Castiel is gone. He’s home now. It’s okay. It’s okay …

Claire strokes her husband’s face. Dark blood begins to seep through the sleeve of her cardigan. Jimmy doesn’t notice. He asks how Claire is. Amelia’s face crumples and she cries out.

THEN: “You betcha!”

NOW

Sheriff Jody Mills girds her loins for the horror that is before her. A deep breath. “You can get through this.”

She is standing in front of a Bavarian-style festhaus and conference center. A large banner hanging over the entrance welcomes her to the Minnesota – Dakotas Sheriffs’ Retreat. She starts for the door … and the handle of her rollie bag slides off in her hand.

I like to imagine that her inside her head voice is saying,

PUDDING!

NOW

Several days have passed since the boys brought EJ home. Dean is holed up in his room drinking and blasting the Stones through his headphones. EJ has been keeping to himself as well. Sam brings him a laptop and the thumb drive with Kelly’s final message. Sam says he hopes that it can begin to answer some of EJ’s questions.

The boy seems both overwhelmed and comforted by his mother’s words. “It’s not fate. You are who you choose to be. And I know you’re going to be okay. You are going to be amazing.” She reminds him that he has an angel watching over him.

‘Supernatural’: I guess you’re just gonna have to wait

Supernatural
“Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox”

EMERSON, MANITOBA 1980

A boy runs through the woods. He steals quick glances over his shoulder, checking the distance between him and the dark figure pursuing him. The boy trips over a log and sprawls onto the ground. The werewolf hauls him up and pins him against a tree. Just as the monster is about rip the boy’s fool heart out of his chest a shot rings out. The boy’s face is spattered with blood.

Mary Winchester lowers the still smoking sawed off.

She drives the boy home in her sapphire blue Mustang. Cheeky Show. Mary tells Asa he’s going to be fine. And that the thing that attacked him was a werewolf. One that she’d been tracking for a long time. She casually says they had history. And that with the exception of the odd loose end, she’s officially retired from hunting.

“But if you retire, who is going to save people like me?”
