THEN: “Jody Mills is good people.”

NOW

Alex walks out of school hand-in-hand with her letter jacket boyfriend, Henry.  Another friend catches up to them and announces she’s in the presence of royalty. They’re in the lead for prom king and queen!

Alex scoffs at the news. Henry sure, but it seems unlikely for her. She wonders that people even still do that? “I thought it was an 80’s thing.” Henry assures her it’s very much a thing. There are crowns, even. He tells her they should have fun with it. He’ll wear the dress and she can wear the tux. Alex sasses that Henry doesn’t have the boobs for her dress.

They’re sweet and adorable together and yay! Alex has nice things! For now!

THE ROAD SO FAR

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and Earth’s foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended;
And saved the sum of things for pay.

NOW

Chuck’s body falls to the floor with a thud.

THEN: “Two players. Two sides. One is light. One is dark.

NOW

The Chuck and Cascifer reunion isn’t going well. Chuck just wants to let bygones be and move on. Cascifer isn’t ready to let go of the hurt of being discarded or his anger that Dad likes his new family better. He’s also decided that the fight against the Darkness isn’t bigger than family.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Team Amara. Go Amara.”

Cascifer is acting like a snotty teen, right down to locking himself in Sam’s room and blasting angry music. “This is like the worst episode of Full House ever.” Dean isn’t wrong, and it’s only the first of many elements in this episode that I don’t care for. Lucifer has lost his menace, and without it, he just seems small. He’s an angel. He’s the Morningstar. But he feels too human here, and I don’t like it.

THEN: “This isn’t her story. It’s mine.”

NOW

Sam and Dean gawp in confusion at the guy who looks like a writer of middling genre fiction/prophet of the Lord, but who the Samulet is telling them is actually God himself.

Chuck smiles fondly at them. He says he’s happy to fill in the blanks, but maybe they should go someplace where they can sit … Dean cuts him off. They’re not going anywhere. How do they even know he’s really Chuck …

*Finger snap of the Lord*

THEN: “He knows … He just doesn’t think it’s his problem.”

NOW

Metatron is rattling around in the bottom of a dumpster. Finally he comes up yahtzee with a fairly unsullied half of a half of a pastrami on rye. He opens his mouth to wolf it down – but stops. The dog is looking at him. I’m going to call him Scraps. Scraps is Sam’s puppy dog eyes made actual dog. Metatron is powerless against him.

The fallen scribe tosses the hunk of lunch meat to Scraps. A fond smile steals across Metatron’s face, and then it’s back down to the dumpster’s depths. He wrestles with the garbage before finally shouting, “I GIVE UP!”
