THEN

I went to Missouri and I learned the truth. Also,

PUDDING!

NOW

Several days have passed since the boys brought EJ home. Dean is holed up in his room drinking and blasting the Stones through his headphones. EJ has been keeping to himself as well. Sam brings him a laptop and the thumb drive with Kelly’s final message. Sam says he hopes that it can begin to answer some of EJ’s questions.

The boy seems both overwhelmed and comforted by his mother’s words. “It’s not fate. You are who you choose to be. And I know you’re going to be okay. You are going to be amazing.” She reminds him that he has an angel watching over him.

THEN

Azazel was a fanatic.  Ramiel was a fisherman.  Dagon had her toys. Asmodeus has his hobbies.

NOW

The doors burst open. Blinding white light spills into Hell’s throne room. The light recedes to reveal a tall man with the fashion sensibilities of End!verse Lucifer (or a Kentucky colonel) and the accent of a True Blood vampire.

He strides to the dais and announces that he is Ahs-Moh-Deus, Prince of Hell, there to rule and restore fire and brimstone order until Lucifer & son return.

A fancy French lady adjusts Jamie’s tie, drapes him in a cozy woolen cloak, and sends him off to his day.

At the print shop he gives the sign outside a bit of spit and polish and has a cranky encounter with two of his “business” associates – the kind who can’t be seen coming through the front door. Jamie opens a hidden panel in the wall and pulls out two sheafs of seditious pamphlets. He warns Frick and Frack that they’ll hang if they’re caught with them.

Geordie comes to work and Jamie immediately sends him out again to get more soda ash for the press. Geordie is like NO NO THAT’S FINE I JUST GOT HERE AND COULD HAVE DONE IT ON THE WAY IN IF YOU’D MENTIONED IT LAST NIGHT BUT NO THAT’S FINE.

Geordie seems like a lot.

THE ROAD SO FAR

Mary came back. Lucifer came back. The Colt came back. The Colt was destroyed. Eileen Leahy came back. Eileen Leahy died because BuckLeming are bullshit. The grenade launcher came back. Jody and Claire are wayward AF. Cas almost died. Crowley brought him back. Floating Space Vagina happened. Bobby came back – sort of. Crowley died. Kelly died. Cas died. Lucifer and Mary fell through the Floating Space Vagina.

What doesn’t merit mention in the montage – at least directly – is the British Men of Letters. Because Show has looked at its life and looked at its choices and realized that the BMoL was a poorly executed bad idea.

BOSTON 1968

A big yellow taxi pulls to a stop, a shockingly vivid pop of color on an otherwise gray and listless street. Handsome Roger steps out of the cab. I assume his balls will be delivered by truck later, because it takes a massive pair to fly 3,000 miles and show up unannounced and unexpected on someone’s doorstep.

At Christmas.

SCOTLAND 1968

Claire’s timeline has caught up to the present and converged with the events from Season 2’s finale. Claire and Brianna were visiting family in England when they learned of the death of old friend Rev. Wakefield.

They traveled to Inverness where Brianna stumbled upon news accounts of Claire’s disappearance. She did the math and realized Frank couldn’t be her biological father, but rejected Claire’s story of sexy time travel.

Until Brianna witnessed another woman, Gillian Edgars, go through the stones at Craigh na Dun.

THEN: “Your bunker is an excellent fortress – and even better tomb.”

DAY ONE

The boys cast about for ways out of the Bunker. Lady Cardboard shoots down every idea, because even in this, she is the ruiner. The garage – doors warded, walls reinforced steel. Air vents – choke points in the ducts. Dean suggests killing Lady C to help buy them another day’s air. She counters that she’s their only hope for getting Mary back. She’s the only one who can undo the programming. They need her.

It feels like a lie, but one the boys are willing to buy it for the moment.
