Max launches today, and I will never get over the fact that these dummies somehow in charge of Warner Bros. think that “HBO” is a toxic brand. Oh, and did I mention that your HBO Max app doesn’t just become Max — that you have to download a completely separate new app?

The A.V. Club memorializes HBO Max and all of its terrible glitchiness, which is so sweet and optimistic that “Max” is somehow going to be any better. (It’s not. It’s already experiencing outages.)

Paramount+ with Showtime will launch on June 27 and will cost “$11.99 a month, while Paramount+ without Showtime will cost $5.99. This is $2 more than the existing Paramount+ premium plan, that currently doesn’t have Showtime content, and $1 more than the “Essential” plan without Showtime.

Comcast is launching a new streaming option called Now TV that bundles 40 live cable channels, some FAST channels, and Peacock, but no live TV or sports. I don’t understand the point, but sure.

Can you guess what the highest-rated canceled show was this season? I wouldn’t have been able to — it never crossed my mind, in fact.

Writers’ Strike News:

This weekend Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav gave the commencement address at Boston University, only to be jeered and chanted at to “PAY YOUR WRITERS.” Good job, kids.

The Aziz Ansari/Keanu Reeves film Good Fortune has been suspended; the Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara film The Island has been suspended.

ABC/Disney discuss the possibility of ABC airing shows from Disney+ if the strike goes long. The long and short of it is that the Disney+ shows aren’t designed for broadcast, and they’d have to figure out how to edit them to fit a network time schedule, but … it’s doable.

After Former President Insidious Liar defamed her AGAIN during the CNN Town Hall days after receiving a $5 million judgment against him, E Jean Carroll has asked a judge to bump up her damages to $10 million. GET HIM.

Melissa McCarthy says she worked on a set that was such  “a volatile, hostile set” that it made her physically ill, and served to inspire her to start her own production company with her husband Ben Falcone. Pajiba does some math and thinks it could have been her CBS sitcom, Mike & Molly.

Totally for no reason whatsoever.

HBO’s The Idol premiered at Cannes yesterday, and the early reviews are pretty cringey. I am pretty sure what they are going for is to try to be so outrageous and titillating as to drive the discourse as “THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL SHOW ON TELEVISION,” and it all feels like someone so desperate for attention they go for shock rather than quality. But we’ll see.

Rachel Bilson gave an interview on a podcast where she spoke very frankly about sex, and joked about liking being “manhandled.” And apparently, she was fired from a job for doing so: “A single mom, a woman, lost a job because they were being candid and honest and the subject was sex … I’ve been floored honestly. Everything was set in motion and I lost the job. It sucks … I haven’t said anything inappropriate. Choice of language, if I could go back, now knowing I lost a job, maybe I would say it differently. But I still wouldn’t not say it.”

Jane Fonda claims French director RenĂ© ClĂ©ment tried to sleep with her to “see what [her] orgasms were like.” Gross.

Jimmie Allen has publicly apologized to his wife following a sexual abuse lawsuit that was filed against him. He referred to the incident as an “affair” in his Instagram post.
