Another day, another outrage from Fox News

Campaign promise kept:

All Other TV News

I know that Fox News is out there every day doing terrible things: pushing lies about COVID and the vaccines, and defending Vladimir Putin, and claiming that Joe Biden is senile, and encouraging the Big Lie, and defending insurrectionists, and trading in antisemitism, racism, and misogyny, and ginning up outrage about non-sexy cartoon candies and mice. And it’s all too much, all the time, and if you paid attention to every bullshit thing they broadcast, your head would explode. I know that.

That said, a recent Fox and Friends segment about the Biden Administration’s efforts to resettle Afghan immigrants was so offensive that I can’t help but bring it to your attention. In it, Brian Kilmeade referred to migrants as “poison” and encouraged people to confront suspected immigrants in airports and “break out [their] iPhone, talk to these people, show the video.”

He added: “What you’re doing is you’re poisoning these cities and these towns and these schools with people that don’t belong there, that are circumventing the immigration process, that don’t speak English.”

It’s not just Kilmeade — the entire segment is actually horrible, predicated on the idea that these immigrants who are here legally have no business in small American towns, and that residents of these towns and cities should be alarmed.

First of all, the racism on display here is absolutely repugnant. The suggestion that immigrants “poison” cities is literally straight out of the Nazi handbook and is contrary to the American experiment. Second of all, encouraging people to confront suspected immigrants — legal or otherwise — is not just a recipe for violence, it hinges on an assumption that anyone who is not lily-white does not belong here and deserves harassment. Finally, I’m old enough to remember when the criticism of the Biden Administration was that they weren’t doing enough to protect Afghans following our pullout of their country. Interesting that Fox News’s position now seems to be that the people who helped us and protected us while we occupied their country are toxic to our own. The entire thing is infuriating and disgusting.

Speaking of Fox News, Gretchen Carlson seems completely done with them and their lies.

Apple CEO Tim Apple Cook claims they “don’t make purely financial decisions about the content [on Apple TV Plus]. We try to find great content that has a reason for being.” So, basically, investors shouldn’t expect Apple TV+ to be a money-making part of the business anytime soon.

And while we’re on the topic of Apple TV+, here’s the first episode of The Afterparty, their new comedy that premiered today.

That defamation lawsuit against Netflix by chess champion Nona Gaprindashvili, in which a Queen’s Gambit character claimed that Gaprindashvili had never played against men, when, in fact, she had faced 59 male competitors by that point, can go forward.

The HRC Foundation has left Netflix off of their annual index of corporations’ inclusive policies and practices for LGBTQ+ workers and will not include them on their ‘Best Places to Work’ list because Dave Chappelle.

Wendy Williams isn’t returning to her show anytime soon. Get better soon, Wendy.
