Speaking of award shows: The Oscars will return to having a host this year. Names being seriously suggested include Tom Holland, the cast of Only Murders in the Building, and, God help me, Pete Davidson. So, (mostly) a bunch of white guys. Got it.

Meanwhile, the Twitter has some suggestions:

Yes, The Goldbergs has lost two of its stars in recent years, and yes, at the end of this season, the youngest Goldberg child will graduate high school and go off to college, but that doesn’t mean ABC is going to cancel the show. (Yes, actually, it probably does. And if it doesn’t, it should.)

Season two of The Witcher is one of Netflix’s most-watched shows (and I’m here to recommend it: it was a much more cohesive and fun ride than the first season, which I also enjoyed).

And Dexter was a huge hit for Showtime — the most-watched in the network’s history, in fact. That said, don’t hold your breath for another season.

HAPPY 25th ANNIVERSARY, KING OF THE HILL! Fun story: I was living in New York City during the heyday of King of the Hill, and one of my now-husband’s friends who grew up in Philadelphia, explained to me, a Texan, that King of the Hill was set in “Middle America.” When I assured him it most definitely was NOT set in Middle America, but in Texas, this idiot tried to mansplain to me that of course Texas was in Middle America: it’s in the middle of America. Bless his heart.

Hometown hero, Dr. Peter Hotez, is out here trying to stop the mutation of this virus by vaccinating poorer countries. He and his team have developed a low-tech, low-cost vaccine, called Corbevax that they are not patenting so that developing nations can vaccinate their populations at a low cost. It has already been authorized in India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, and they’ve made 300 doses. Let’s hope this slows the virus enough to avoid more variants like Omicron.

Other less positive stories coming out of Houston: PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR COVID-POSITIVE CHILD IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR, OH MY GOD.

The Young and the Restless has recast the character of Ashland Locke after the original actor, Richard Burgi, violated CBS’s COVID protocols. He claims it was a mistake. Hmm.

As of now, WarnerMedia has no plans to pull The Batman from its theatrical premiere in March. Disney recently chose to move the premiere of Turning Red from theaters to Disney+ because of the Omicron surge.

The National Association of Television Program Executives has canceled their in-person event in Miami.

The New York Toy Fair has been canceled again.

This is an interesting piece on how TV shows are desperate to either ignore or move past COVID in their storylines, and how while the urge is understandable, it also creates a weird dissonance.

Soooooo Novak Djokovic, this asshole. The world’s best men’s tennis player is set to compete in the Australian Open on January 17. However, Djokovic has loudly and proudly refused to get vaccinated, which created a problem for the Open. They granted him and a few other players “exemptions” from their vaccine requirement, sparking outrage amongst Australians.

Still, he traveled to Australia last week. However, when he arrived to Melbourne, the government was there to intercept him, and he was placed in an immigration detention center.

His team then claimed that actually, what had happened was … Djokovic tested positive on December 16, so he should be released from detention and allowed to compete, based on Australia’s COVID rules that allow people who have been infected within the past six months to be exempt from the vaccination requirement.

Funny thing about that: on December 17, this asshole did a  maskless photo shoot, gave a maskless interview and … handed out awards at a children’s event. Maskless. On January 10, an Australian court sided with Djokovic and released him from custody, but Australia is still considering revoking his visa.

And you’ll be shocked by this, I’m sure, but the right has begun rallying around this unvaccinated, inconsiderate asshole. The Open begins on January 17.

Speaking of the right, Dr. Fauci is absolutely done with their idiocy and dangerous disinformation. He called one Senator a “moron” in a meeting yesterday, and tore Senator Rand Paul a whole new asshole:

Meanwhile, the loons are now drinking their own pee to treat COVID, and Tucker Carlson suggested Viagra could be a cure.
