OK HI. So you might have noticed that I haven’t devoted nearly as many posts to screaming about Former President Moldy Tangerine recently, really not since he left office. And there are multiple reasons for that: now that he’s out of power — and off of Twitter — he’s no longer newsworthy, his actions no longer carry the same weight or importance in our government or our culture. And honestly, the emotional weight that was lifted from me when President Biden was inaugurated … it was such a relief to not be angry or scared anymore and I didn’t want to go back to that place of constant stress and worry and anxiety. My mental health genuinely benefitted not just from President Biden entering office, but also from actively making the choice to not write about Former President Dingus anymore. But more importantly, I decided that by continuing to write about him and every outrageous thing he was saying or doing, it would just be giving him oxygen that he craves, but doesn’t deserve. Admittedly, very little oxygen considering the very limited reach of this blog, but oxygen nonetheless.
And so I’ve been doing my best to not write about the aftermath of January 6, or the insane recount taking place in Arizona, or the voter suppression efforts in multiple states that are based on The Big Lie and are intended to overthrow the next election, or the schadenfreude-inducing stories about Former President Halitosis’s and his family and business’s growing legal exposure.
But my happy funtimes have come to a (hopefully only temporary) end because Former President Failed Blogger is going to hold his first post-Presidential rally tomorrow. And I’m concerned.
Namely, I’m worried that unlike his fail site, the rally tour he is planning to undertake this summer might actually receive attention from both his followers and the media. While he only attracted a few thousand people to his bad blog, if the networks and cable channels give his rallies attention, if they go and cover them as breathlessly as they did during his campaigns and presidency, it might give him and his lies the oxygen he so desperately seeks. And what worries me is that it will be a hard, if not impossible decision for a news network like CNN or MSNBC to make to NOT turn their cameras towards a former President who is delusional enough to believe he will somehow, magically, be restored to the White House in two months. How do you NOT pay attention to that? But if they do, I fear we will be sucked right back into the Former Deceiver-in-Chief’s vortex of lies and misinformation, and the brief respite our discourse has had from his dangerous bullshit will be over.
There are plenty of commentators and GOP operatives out there who believe the rally tour will only hurt the GOP in the long run, that it will remind Americans of how batshit insane he and by extension the Republican party is as a whole just as we head into 2022 and another round of midterm elections. But I’m old enough to remember that these same people said this exact same thing about his presidential run in 2016 — and we all have the scars (and 600,000 dead fellow Americans) to remember how that turned out.
I’m truly sorry to have broken a nice, almost 5-month run of not making him the star of this blog, but I am afraid it’s once again time to brace ourselves for whatever Former President Unending Nightmare has in store for us next.

Josh Duhamel’s grandpa thirst trap on behalf of Jupiter’s Legacy is giving me very confused feelings. Fun fact about Jupiter’s Legacy: though it wasn’t much loved by critics, it was the most-streamed original series the week it debuted.
Apparently, this is the summer of the beard. I blame the lockdown.
It’s still going to be a little while before we can see Jensen’s beard in action on The Boys, so Starlight’s Season 2 tribute ballad to Translucent, will have to tide you over:

Look, it’s hacky, but I can’t NOT make the “One Degree of Kevin Bacon” joke about this actress from Mare of Easttown. (I had no idea she was Kevin Bacon and Kyria Sedgwick’s daughter until I read this, but now that I know, I can’t unsee it.)
Speaking of Mare, here’s a recipe for a proper Philly cheesesteak, complete with Whiz, that you can make at home if you’re not within driving distance of Philadelphia. (But if you ARE within driving distance, go to Dalessandro’s, not Jim’s … though Jim’s is fine if you’re downtown, I guess.)
There is an alternate universe out there wherein Tobias Fünke was on House, and we will never be able to access it.
Paramount+ is going to launch its cheaper, ad-supported tier next week.
Abby Huntsman has no regrets about leaving The View, and honestly, why would she?
A reminder that the Kennedy Center Honors will air this Sunday:
When I was 17, Dick Van Dyke and his family walked into the magic shop where I worked at Disneyland. I was awe-struck then and awe-struck now that I was able to deliver his voice-over narrative for his bio at the Kennedy Center Honors.
