‘Saturday Night Live’: Bad Bunny presenta un episodio mediocre, pero no es su culpa. (I promise this is in InglĂ©s.)
Saturday Night Live
Bad Bunny & Doja Cat
October 4, 2025
It’s been a rough summer for comedy. First, Stephen Colbert gets cancelled, then the FCC guns for Jimmy Kimmel, all the while President Cankles is screaming that Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are next. So you can understand why SNL might be a little concerned that FCC Weasel Brendan Carr might set his sights on them. They might be concerned, but they are apparently taking the threat head-on: they mocked President Nuerosyphillis and Pete Kegseth in the cold open, they came gunning for the administration in “Weekend Update,” and, perhaps most importantly, they brought back Puerto Rican megastar, upcoming Super Bowl Halftime performer, and MAGA trigger, Bad Bunny, to host the season premiere. It’s just unfortunate that Bad Bunny is not particularly funny, or a good actor.
But listen! I’m not putting this all on Bad Bunny, not by a long shot. The first time he hosted, the episode was a lot stronger than this. And God knows I wouldn’t be able to bring the laughs if I had to headline a live comedy show entirely in Spanish. Adding to the language barrier, and the fact that he’s a singer, not an actor, was an unevenly written episode consisting almost entirely of sketches that were one-note. Now, the thing that drew the most headlines about SNL last month was the cast departures and new additions. But the biggest change that happened was behind the scenes, in the writers’ room. Four long-time writers left the show, and seven new writers were brought on, in addition to a returning writer. Let’s hope that between everyone shaking the summer cobwebs off and the newbies learning the ropes, they get into a better groove by the time Amy Poehler hosts next week.
Are you ready to talk about THAT episode of ‘The Last of Us’ yet?
Jon Hamm finally returns to ham it up on a great ‘Saturday Night Live’
Saturday Night Live
Jon Hamm & Lizzo
April 12, 2025
Last week, we learned that Jack Black hasn’t hosted Saturday Night Live in over 20 years, and this week we learned that Jon Hamm — SNL and 30 Rock favorite, Jon Hamm — hasn’t hosted in almost 15 years? What is even happening because neither of these things can possibly be right, could they? It feels like Hamm has been hanging around 30 Rock forever! And yet, this is only his fourth time actually to helm the show, the last time being all the way back in 2010. HOW CAN THIS EVEN BE?
Because the thing is, Jon Hamm is great on SNL. His leading man good looks allow him to play both to and against type. Hamm uses that square jaw of his to be both the serious news anchor/straight man/Don Draper and the dimwitted buffoon with absolutely nothing going on behind those pretty eyes. (Which is also what made him so perfect on 30 Rock as Liz Lemon’s dimwitted doctor boyfriend, Drew Baird, a man so handsome he unintentionally manipulates everyone around him. “So Handsome…so, so stupid!”)
And in this week’s episode, he made the most of both of those types in an episode that was almost all hits, zero misses. I don’t know what has been in the water at 8H for the past couple of weeks, but this was another consistently very funny episode, buoyed by a confident and capable host. Lorne, if you don’t give this man a Five-Timers jacket by the end of 2025, I … well, I don’t know what I’ll do other than be very upset. MORE HAMM.

Jake Gyllenhaal ends season 49 of ‘Saturday Night Live’ on a high-ish note
Saturday Night Live
Jake Gyllenhaal & Sabrina
May 19, 2024
This is Jake Gyllenhaal’s third time hosting Saturday Night Live, and fortunately for all of us, it did not take nearly as long for him to return as it did the first time around. Fortunately, it would seem, the SNL folks have realized what a gem they have in Gyllenhaal as a host: he’s loose, charismatic, and gives 100% even in sketches that don’t deserve it. I don’t know if, as I assumed the last time he hosted, that Gyllenhaal is no longer afraid to harm his “Serious Actor” status by doing comedy — starring in a remake of Road House will certainly do more damage to one’s chances of earning an Oscar down the road more than hosting SNL — but I am glad to see him back on the Studio 8H stage where he feels like a natural.
