Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
For the time being, Hoda Kotb will remain on The Today Show, filling in for Savannah Guthrie.
Netflix and movie theaters are trying to make nice.
Netflix head Ted Sarandos is headed to meetings at the White House following Paramount’s new bid for Warner Bros. Read into that what you will.
“This massive consolidation would place an unprecedented amount of content, distribution power, and market influence into the hands of a single corporation,” Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said in a press release of his own regarding the letter. “History shows us what happens when industries become dominated by a few giants: prices rise, choices shrink, and innovation suffers.”
Of course, Paramount buying Warner Bros. would also be a massive consolidation, so …
The FCC is looking into the consolidation of sports onto streaming services and away from free, over-the-air broadcasts, which I actually applaud. More time on this, less time bullying comedians you don’t like, Brendan.
Won’t someone please hire this Late Show with Stephen Colbert writer?
Another week, another drop in the ratings for CBS Evening News. Meanwhile, Fox News continues to dominate the cable news ratings (and I don’t think the two things are unrelated — the more CBS News tries to lean right, the more viewers they will lose. If people want a conservative news source, they are going to turn to Fox News. Of course, as I’ve said before, I don’t know that increasing the audience at CBS is the entire point, but rather it’s about stifling, silencing, and even punishing a respected news media outlet.)
Hang on, is Chelsea Handler’s new sitcom based on one Sonja Morgan??!? If so, take all my money.
Did one of my favorite sitcoms get canceled because a bunch of parents didn’t have a sense of humor?
John Davidson, the gentleman with Tourette’s whose tics created the controversy at the BAFTAs this weekend, alleges the BBC promised they would edit out any of his tics, but also placed a microphone close to his table. He also says he has reached out to Warner Bros. to apologize directly to Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo, and Hannah Beachler.
Cardi B nearly walked off of last month’s Saturday Night Live when she heard a “Weekend Update” joke during rehearsals about Nicki Minaj, with whom she has beef. Cardi B allegedly threw a phone at a monitor and punched another screen, breaking it. The “Weekend Update” writers removed the joke before airtime and Cardi B. is reportedly welcome back to SNL. (Curiously, I remember there being a Nicki Minaj joke in “Weekend Update” that episode, mostly because I was looking for one, as it was the same week Nicki Minaj cozied up to President Bullshitter. But they must have swapped it out at the last minute.)
Sounds like the second season of Heated Rivalry will drop in April 2027.
Johnny Knoxville swears Jackass 5 will be the last Jackass. Sure it will be, Johnny.
The State of the Union Address ratings were down from last year. SAD.
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner has chosen mentalist Oz Pearlman to host because God knows President Thin Skin can’t handle a comedian.
And this is just to remind you: The removal of 50 pages of Epstein Files implicating the President of the United States in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old child is the biggest scandal in American presidential history and should be treated as such all the time everywhere.
