Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
So … something is going on at CBS News and Gayle King, but I’m not sure what. Yesterday, Variety put out an exclusive report saying that four sources told them King would be departing as anchor of CBS Mornings next year. Her contract expires in May, and with the Bari Weiss overhaul taking place at CBS News, this is not entirely shocking or surprising.
However, in the same report, CBS News said: “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.” And King herself told a TMZ photographer, “All I can say is this: From what I’m being told inside this building … all I’ve been told by everybody in this building is that they want me here, they like the job I’m doing, I like the job I’m doing!”
According to TMZ, the issue is money: King is earning $10 million and CBS doesn’t think that’s reasonable in “this media environment.” She had previously made as much as $13 million before taking a pay cut last year. So it sounds like releasing this report now is the opening salvo in new contract negotiations to pressure King to take another pay cut.
Frankly, I’m not optimistic for King’s chances for another reason: this new era of demonizing “DEI.” This morning, this TikTok video came on my feed. For those of you who can’t watch it, it’s an African-American man who was laid off at CBS, and he claims the only people from his show who were let go were people of color. If true, time to lawyer up.
@treymous
Oh, and TMZ is reporting that CBS News is looking at more potential hires from Fox News. Cooooooool.
Hold up: Netflix might be interested in buying Warner Bros. after all …
The big question is, if Warner Bros. is acquired by someone else, will James Gunn stick around to head DC? This piece assumes Paramount will be the group that buys Warner Bros., but it’s a relevant question for any merger.
ABC, ESPN, Disney, and other Disney properties have gone dark on YouTube over a carriage dispute.
Vince Gilligan doesn’t want Walter White to be his legacy, to which I say, “LOL, TOO BAD.”
The Simpsons predicted the Republicans defunding PBS some 20 years ago, but that’s not really all that prophetic as the Republicans have been trying to defund PBS as long as I can remember.
The Boys (which I adore) has been awarded two titles from the Guinness Book of World Records: “The Most In-Demand Action-Adventure TV Show,” and “The Most In-Demand Superhero TV Show.” However, at no point in this article does it suggest how this was calculated, exactly, so I have some questions.
Sean Duffy and Kim Kardashian bickering over whether or not we’ve been to the moon — and having to take Sean Fucking Duffy’s side — is making my headache worse.
Phyllis on The Office was a character written especially for Phyllis Smith, who was a casting associate on the series at the time. But her audition readings with the actual actors were so good, the director created a role for her. And now you know!
More horror stories from America’s Next Top Model:
“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad and really dark, and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” Eilish told a room packed with celebrities and Zuckerberg. “I’d say if you have money, it would be great to use it for good things, maybe give it to some people that need it.” She continued, saying, Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah, give your money away, shorties.”
Good job, Shorty!
Get well soon, Catherine Bach!
