Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
The Emmys were last night, and aside from a surprise win for Hacks for Outstanding Comedy, things went pretty much the way everyone expected: Shōgun was a huge winner; Baby Reindeer was a huge winner; and The Bear did pretty well, even if it didn’t snag Outstanding Comedy (maybe because it’s not exactly … funny?).
- If you just want to get to the winners: Here ya go.
- If you just want to look at the pretty dresses: Here ya go.
- Reservation Dog’s D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai had the most striking look of the night, with a red hand painted over his face as a symbol of solidarity with missing and murdered Indigenous women:

- As for the hosts: the Levys were fine. The best joke of the night?
“I know some of you might be expecting us to make a joke about whether The Bear is really a comedy…but in the true spirit of The Bear we will not be making any jokes”

- But my favorite bit was “Shingles doesn’t care” during Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez’s appearance. If you don’t get the joke, bless you, you clearly don’t watch cable news as a hobby.
- Selena Gomez and Candice Bergen had some words for JD Vance.
- John Oliver dedicated his show’s win for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series to his recently passed dog and all dogs everywhere AND THEY TRIED TO PLAY HIM OFF. Absolutely not.
- The In Memoriam was a mess: between the weird song choice by Jelly Roll, and the snubbing of Shelly Duvall, Chita Rivera, and soap actors Tyler Christopher and Johnny Wactor, it managed to upset a lot of people.
- When she won Outstanding Actress in a Comedy, Jean Smart nipped at the hand that feeds her.
- They bleeped Jeremy Allen White for saying “Jesus Christ” when he accepted his Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series.
- John Leguizamo delivered a powerful speech celebrating this year’s diversity in the nominees, noting that he’s “almost happy and certainly less angry.”
- Anna Sawai’s win for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for Shōgun was the first time a woman of Asian descent won that award.
- The Bear‘s Liza Colón-Zayas became the first Latina to win Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
- The list of first-time Emmy winners somehow includes Jodie Foster?
- Also astonishing, her win for True Detective was that show’s first acting Emmy, as was Lamorne Morris’s win for Fargo. How?
- There were reunions: The West Wing, Happy Days, Saturday Night Live, Reba and Schitt’s Creek.
- This is how I learned Hack‘s star Hannah Einbinder is a nepo baby.
- Shōgun broke the record for the most Emmys in one season with 18.
- And Curb Your Enthusiasm broke its own record as the show with the most nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series without a win, having been nominated all 12 seasons and never won once.
- Disney (really FX/Hulu) was the big winner of the night with 36 Emmys — half of which were Shōgun.
- And I think we can all agree, this was the worst moment of the night. What the fuck even was that?
Michael Che hated this dad joke that Colin Jost told on Weekend Update but he’s wrong.
Jennie Garth regrets being on that 90210 reboot, and who can blame her?
Netflix is being sued by an Indian filmmaker who claims Squid Game ripped off his 2009 film, Luck. Good luck with that!
The White House will host an event celebrating The West Wing on Friday.
I’m sorry, Laverne, what do you mean you USED to have a crush on Keanu Reeves? Those don’t just go away, ma’am.
I swear, these people just can’t stay out of jail.
Congratulations, Katie Thurston (and good luck?).
Frankly, I’m not going to spend any time on the SECOND assassination attempt on Former President Golf Cart’s life. I’m glad he’s safe and uninjured and there is absolutely no place for political violence. But also maybe we could make it even just A LITTLE TINY BIT harder for these lunatics to get their hands on dangerous weapons of war?
JD Vance just admitted on CNN that he made up the whole “immigrants eating pets” thing to get attention. WELL DONE, ASSHOLE. I’m sure that will comfort the kids whose schools received bomb threats over this fucking lie.

The damage Mark Burnett and NBC inflicted on this country can not be overstated.
LOL:

Vice President Kamala Harris‘ campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika’s response:
“Donald Trump’s week of whining and spouting conspiracy theories has voters on both sides of the aisle ready to Forget That He Existed,” she said. “The American people want to be Out of the Woods of the chaos and division of the Trump era, leave behind the Blank Space of Trump’s broken promises, and Begin Again by electing Vice President Harris to ensure America’s future of opportunity is Long Lived.
“Voters know All Too Well how dangerous Trump and his Project 2025 agenda will be if he wins. This November, we can make sure this is The Last Time we have to deal with his End Game of jacking up taxes on the middle class and ripping away Americans’ freedoms. Together, we can turn the page on the Trump Era and write a new chapter where all Americans Breathe easy knowing we have strong, steady leadership at the helm. We can make sure The Story of Us is one of progress—and show Donald Trump we are not going Back to December of 2020. Like ever.”
