Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

As far as I can tell, this Presidential Debate is going to actually happen tonight, despite my absolute skepticism. BUT OK. LET’S GO.

Chris Wallace says that Former President Stand Back and Stand By intends to be “nice and respectful” during tonight’s debate, and even veteran newscasters can’t help but laugh in his face. (Wallace’s comments begin at about :55.)

The Bachelor producers have finally — FINALLY — admitted they had (have?) a racism problem, and that they didn’t do enough to protect their first Black Bachelor, Matt James.

“It’s hard to say out loud, that people of color didn’t see themselves represented, that they did not see ‘The Bachelor’ franchise as a safe place,” [Executive Producer Bennett] Graebner said. “We didn’t have a Black lead in this franchise for 15 years, and that’s inexcusable. It created a vicious cycle, and it’s taken a lot of work to get back to a place where we feel at least we’re working for the positive.”

“I’m going to be really frank — we let Matt down,” Graebner said. “That season went wrong on so many levels. We did not protect him as we should have. The finale of that season was the darkest day I’ve had on this franchise. Here was this great Black man, and we should have been celebrating his love story. Instead, what we saw was a man burdened and overwhelmed by issues of racism. It was really sad for me personally.”

They add that it’s a priority to hire another Black Bachelor soon and to remedy mistakes made in James’ season. And that’s great. It’s at least a start. But it’s not going to make a dent in the culturally-conservative, heteronormative, conventionally-attractive, and patriarchal monolith that the Bachelor universe is.

Jared Padalecki did not hold back on his feelings regarding The CW and the cancelation of Walker: “And I hate to say that, but I’m just being honest. I mean, fuck it. They can’t fire me again. I’m just being brutally honest. I think it felt to me like they were looking for really easy, cheap content that they could fill up time with.” Damn straight.

Padalecki also suggested that after 24 years of network TV, he’s ready for a well-earned break. (That said, he’s down for a role on The Boys.)

Maggie Grace calls Shannon’s death on Lost “still the worst heartbreak of my career. I was devastated!”

There was almost an ER reboot.

After taking down the website and archives for MTV News, Paramount has also killed the online presence for Comedy Central, MTV itself, TV Land, Logo TV, the Paramount Network and CMT.

The end of the Comedy Central site marks one of the biggest losses of online video content, including clips from beloved series such as “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” that don’t live elsewhere — not even on Paramount+. It also meant the removal of sharable clips from shows like “South Park,” “Key & Peele” and others that aren’t also available on either the streaming platform or YouTube.

This piece argues that Kenya Moore’s firing from The Real Housewives of Atlanta is unfair and reeks of double standards as other Housewives haven’t been fired for equally bad behavior. What it doesn’t take into account is that Bravo is under fire right now, facing multiple lawsuits from former Housewives. So YEAH, Bravo’s gonna be a lot more trigger-happy when it comes to firing these lunatics when they misbehave.

Jonathan Van Ness opened up about that Rolling Stone expose of the Queer Eye guys, claiming that it wasn’t “based in reality” but at the same time noting that it gave him cause for self-reflection. So obviously there are some grains of truth in there, right?
