Atlanta and Better Things have already been renewed for a second season on FX, which is terrific news. If you’re not watching Atlanta, you’re going to want to get on that.
Oh my God, Steve from Stranger Things met his son Jean-Ralphio from Parks and Recreation and my head just exploded.
The new season of Salem, now with 100% more Marilyn Manson, debuts on November 2.
Happy birthday, George R.R. Martin! I hope you spend it finishing those damn books, buddy!
Fun facts: CBS has won the ratings in daytime TV for 30 years in a row, but NBC has won the nightly news for 20 years in a row.
Joss Whedon got a bunch of TV and movie actors together to make this PSA urging people to register to vote — specifically against Trump, and it’s funny and clever, just like everything Joss Whedon does. And it’s my blog so I can post political things if I want.
Netflix intends to be half original programming within the next few years. Hey, I hear Firefly might be available to fill some of that space…
You probably don’t know this about me, but I’m mildly obsessed with cults in general, Scientology specifically. So between the news that Jason Lee has left the “church” (news that was broken in a blog about Denton, TX [?] where he now lives [?]) and now the story that Leah Remini has landed a series about Scientology at A&E, this is a pretty big week for your trusty blogger.
In other development news:
- Megyn Kelly is producing a comedy about reporters embedded in a political campaign.
- Josh Gad is starring in and writing Toy Wars for Amazon, a limited drama about the real-life battle between Mattel and Hasbro
- The CW is working on a supernatural drama called Stick Man from the guys who gave us Heroes and the bat-shit insane Helix.
- Michael Weatherly is producing a series about Mata Hari for The CW in news that sounds like it was created by drawing random nouns out of a hat.
- Katie Couric is producing a hate crimes drama for CBS.
- Shondaland is moving into the comedy business with a series they sold to ABC about a dead best friend. Sounds hilarious.
- ABC also bought The Marquis, a “sexy” soap about a building in New York.
