It’s New Year’s Eve, and I can not WAIT to be done with this goddamned year. That said, I’m a little apprehensive about what fresh hells 2026 has in store for us:
@celeste06_
But before we get to all that, one last look back at all the good doggos that helped get us through this past year:

Anyway. Happy New Year’s! I hope you and yours have a lovely celebration, and we’ll see each other on the other side.

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
You wanna see some recession indicators? Cool:
Tubi and Roku — your ad-supported streamers — are outpacing Netflix, Prime Video, and HBO Max in subscriptions, and by considerable numbers.
We spend too much time talking about Apple, HBO, Paramount+ and Peacock and not enough time talking about Tubi and Roku.

And for the first time in … ever, not a single new show in 2025 made the top 10 most-watched. People are falling back on the comfort shows they know and love:
We examined six years of @nielsen data to understand what TV people are streaming — and how their tastes have changed.
Going to share some takeaways, starting with a biggie:
Hollywood is delivering fewer new hit TV shows than any time in recent history. pic.twitter.com/LlAnBwYAxL

Bluey was the most-watched show of 2025, with 39.3 billion minutes of viewing time, with Grey’s Anatomy coming in second with 30.3 billion. And to no one’s surprise, KPop Demon Hunters is the most-watched film, with 17.4 billion minutes.
George Clooney is not a fan of Bari Weiss: “Bari Weiss is dismantling CBS News as we speak,” Clooney says. “Am I worried about film studios? Sure. It’s my business, but my primary loyalty is to my country. I’m much more worried about how we inform ourselves and how we’re going to discern reality without a functioning press.”
Warner Bros. is preparing to tell Paramount to get bent once again. GET THE MESSAGE, ELLISONS, THEY JUST AREN’T THAT INTO YOU.
The Outer Banks kids are over it.
Just when I think I am done with this Chevy Chase conversation, another horrible story pops up. Terry Sweeney, the first openly gay cast member of SNL, claims Chase suggested they do a sketch where they ask him if he has AIDS and then weigh him every week. In this CNN documentary, where all these stories are coming from, when asked about this incident, Chase responded, “Terry Sweeney, he was very funny, this guy. I don’t think he’s alive anymore.” WHICH IS NOT GREAT BECAUSE SWEENEY IS VERY MUCH ALIVE.
The documentarian then tries to jog Chase’s memory of the exchange, noting that Chase was forced to apologize to Sweeney, and according to Sweeney, he was furious about it, to which present-day Chase responds, “My memory is that he is lying, is my memory. He’s not telling the truth. That isn’t me. That’s not who I am. And if I am that way, my life has changed, because I have to live with that now for the rest of my fucking life.” Yes. Chevy Chase is definitely the victim here.
Speaking of assholes, first of all, no one is inviting you to be the Golden Bachelor, Bill. But secondly, as Pajiba pointed out, this is literally the plot of It’s Always Sunny‘s most recent season.

You have got to be fucking kidding me:

President Orange Menace is leaving 2025 the same way he came in: being a disgusting, insensitive pig.
George R.R. Martin still literally doing anything but finishing those books.Â
Carey Elwes shares his tribute to Rob Reiner:
Congratulations, Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton!

Aloha Therese, Happy New Year! Wondering if you have had a chance to check out Heated Rivalry. It is the best thing to happen in 2025 and has put a smile on my face during what has been an awful year. I would love to hear your thoughts on the show and it would be even more amazing if you recapped it 🙂
Happy New Year, Joyce! And no, I haven’t had a chance to watch Heated Rivalry yet … it’s definitely on my list, though. Maybe I’ll try to get to it tomorrow or this weekend!
Thanks for reading and commenting! I always love to hear from folks!
