Will Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert be the next victims of Paramount’s shameful deal with President Mob Boss?

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Here are your Daytime Emmy nominations.

One of the shows that was nominated was Married to Real Estate, which was just canceled at HGTV. Awkward.

In the midst of all those cancelations at HGTV, it looks like at least these 11 shows are safe. For now.

Did David Zaslav just save Turner Classic Movies?

An online rumor started by Jason Tartick is saying that Jason Tartick is being considered for the next Bachelor.

Happy 20th anniversary of the filming of the pilot (not the premiere — that happens next year) of Supernatural to all those who celebrate.

ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS: How often are the sheets changed in the Love Island villa? Well, it sounds like it depends on who you ask.

Love Island USA‘s Cierra Ortega is sorry for using that racial slur. And yes, it is a racial slur.

Someone please get Mary Lou Retton some help. Yes, I know she’s MAGA and she literally advocated against a bill designed to protect young athletes from sexual predators (like, what the hell, Mary Lou?), but she clearly needs some help.

PolUGHtics

So, that deal that Paramount made with President Extortionist last week to pay him $16 million because 60 Minutes lightly edited an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, and Paramount wanted a merger to go through that required the approval of the FCC. (Yes, it was only last week. With everything that has happened since, it feels like a year ago, I know.) While it was fully expected to happen, it’s still disappointing and signals a very dangerous path forward for the sanctity of the First Amendment moving forward.

Some follow-up stories about that mess:

President Liar is out here claiming that the deal isn’t worth $16 million, but up to $32 million, because Paramount is giving him $16 million worth of advertisings or PSAs: “We did a deal for about $16 million plus $16 million, or maybe more than that in advertising. So it’s a combination of 16 plus 16. So it’s like $32 [million]. Maybe $35 million.”

This is news to Paramount, who denies this.

HEY. MAYBE DON’T MAKE DEALS WITH LYING SHAKEDOWN ARTISTS.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation is considering legal options against Paramount Global.

And now there is a report that once the Skydance-Paramount merger goes through, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert might be pushed out. I’m skeptical that they’ll let Colbert go — he is late night’s biggest name and one of CBS’s marquee personalities. As for Stewart, he’s considerably more vulnerable, but I also don’t think he gives a singular fuck about being fired. He’s already left the show once of his own volition; I’m sure he’d be happy to go back to retirement after burning it all down behind him.

For instance, he opened Monday’s Daily Show mocking the settlement and calling it “shameful” (which it is), only to have his rant be “interrupted” by an “Arby’s ad,” a playful acknowledgement that he’s playing with fire.

And then his guest was Steve Kroft, a former 60 Minutes correspondent, who called the settlement a “shakedown.”

Elsewhere, the co-anchor of the CBS Nightly News, John Dickerson, offered commentary on the settlement on the July 2nd broadcast, asking “Can you hold power to account after paying it millions? Can an audience trust you when it thinks you’ve traded away that trust?

And former CBS anchor and legend, Dan Rather, called the settlement for what it is: “It was a sell-out to extortion by the President. Who can now say where all this ends?”

Indeed.
