So the big news from yesterday is that Former President Does Not Actually Have a Mandate-Elect‘s first choice for Attorney General, Matt Gaetz, a man currently being investigated for sex trafficking by the very agency that he would have been heading, took himself out of consideration. What was not known until later was that Gaetz dropped out six minutes before CNN published a report alleging that Gaetz had a second sexual encounter with a minor that had previously not been reported. Gaetz will return to Florida to spend more time with his adult son Nestor.
Gaetz was almost immediately replaced with a new nominee, one Pam Bondi. Bondi is the former Attorney General of Florida who has her own issues: she was an election denier in 2020, and, more problematically, when she was running for re-election as Florida’s Attorney General in 2013, she received a campaign donation from the Trump Foundation when she had 22 fraud complaints about Trump University. She subsequently declined to move forward with the lawsuit against Trump University.
