Today was the day Donald trump finally became president
— Megan Amram (@meganamram) May 30, 2024
Obviously, the big news today is that Former President Convicted Felon was found guilty in all 34 felony counts against him for falsifying documents to cover up an affair with an adult actress during an election, which the prosecution argued was a federal campaign finance violation. This election element is the part of law that was used to elevate what would have ordinarily been misdemeanors to felonies, and it should be noted that it is an untested and novel case — because there has never been another President who covered up an affair with an adult actress through a complicated business scheme to keep it out of the media while he was running for office before.
My lawyer husband warns that it could be overturned in an appeal. I, however, choose to ignore my lawyer husband and just bask in the joy that this terrible horrible man has, for the first time in his entire gilded life, been forced to face real justice.

He will be sentenced on July 11, just five days ahead of the Republican National Convention where this man, THIS FELON, will most likely be nominated as their candidate for President. As for what he will be sentenced to? I don’t allow myself to hope for real prison time — it would be a logistical nightmare, to be fair — but this asshole isn’t doing himself any favors by violating his gag order and showing no contrition or remorse.

Meanwhile, broadcast networks came in with special coverage because DUH, YEAH, this is the first time a former President has been convicted of anything.

Rachel Maddow warns that Former President Not Above the Law is going to attack the judicial system as part of his campaign now, which, yeah, but he’s been doing that since before he was elected.

We should start referring to him as 34 instead of 45.

Jimmy Kimmel was the only late-night show in town this week, everyone else having taken the entire Memorial Day week off. It paid off for him:
Convicted felon Donald Trump is blaming the judge, the jury and New York for being found guilty on 34 counts. He will never accept accountability for his crimes. Americans must not allow this felon anywhere near the White House again. https://t.co/UcFfAU3bv5

The View ladies had a field day with the news this morning: Whoopi Goldberg, who never appears on Friday episodes and refuses to say the man’s name, came on just for the occasion to say, “I’m going to say something you’ve never heard me say before, but Donald John Trump is a convicted felon.” At the end of the episode, Goldberg spent the last 34 seconds to repeat “Guilty,” 34 times while the audience cheered.

And a reminder that Ronan Farrow is one of the heroes of this story, too.

As you might surmise, the cult members are having a full-on meltdown and calling for violence, because that’s what they do. Cry more, MAGA.

Meanwhile, CNN is planning on running ads during the first Presidential debate on June 27, AS IF THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
Finally, once again, I call on you to register to vote, make sure you are still registered to vote (our Red States are not above some fuckery with voter rolls), and make a plan to vote in November. Yes, it’s about keeping a CONVICTED FELON out of the White House, but it’s also about so much more, including the war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, about all of the work the Biden administration has done to save our economy, to reduce student debt, to reduce gun violence, to implement climate action, to repair our infrastructure, and to move towards decriminalizing marijuana. But most importantly, most direly, it’s about the Supreme Court. It’s always about the Supreme Court and about our rights, as millions of American women have learned the most horrific and painful way with the repeal of Roe. If we are complacent, if enough people choose to sit this one out because they are not energized by President Biden or they are mad about the horrors of Gaza or that enough of the progressive agenda hasn’t been enacted, every bit of progress we have made will not just be stripped away, it will be violently reversed, and our democracy will literally be vulnerable to a wannabe authoritarian. Please please please take whatever energy you have right now with the news of this conviction and carry it with you for the next five months and straight into the voting booth.

An update on Mamie Laverock from When Calls the Heart: she’s made it out of surgery and is doing well. Here’s to hoping she makes a full recovery.
