Going into 2023 like:

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
The Last of Us will debut on HBO on January 15, and between Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey starring and Craig Mazin at the helm, I’m pretty excited about it even though I know NOTHING about the game.
This very good Hollywood Reporter piece on the series — which could be HBO’s Next Big Thing or a colossal disappointment — is worth your time. It tells the story of the origin of the video game (and how George Romero was unimpressed with the idea), how it was originally going to be made into a movie by Sam Raimi until game creator Neil Druckmann saw Chernobyl and wanted Mazin to make it into a TV series; and how they cast Lady Mormont and the Red Viper as the leads. It’s a great deep dive. But also, you fans of the game need to get over the beard issue. That’s just ridiculous.
The Andy Cohen – Ryan Seacrest catfight has entered a new level. On Live with Kelly and Ryan the other day, Seacrest claimed that Anderson Cooper saw him on New Year’s Eve and wished him a good show, but that while Seacrest tried to wave at Andy Cohen, Cohen never acknowledged him. Kelly denied this was true.
But now, Andy Cohen is claiming that it’s Anderson’s fault, that Anderson never alerted him to Seacrest’s presence, and added that Seacrest “has a bug up” about him. KEEP FIGHTING, GIRLS!
Roku is going to start making its own smart TVs.
HBO Max also pulled three seasons of The Flintstones from the streamer. These guys.
Hugh Dancy offers his theory on why Hannibal season four hasn’t happened: $$$.
This is a list of 10 TV Shows in Which the Pilot Episode Was the Worst and honestly, this list should have been the 10 TV Shows in Which the Pilot Episode Wasn’t That Bad, Actually, because honestly, pilot episodes are usually trash. There’s a reason for that, of course: pilots have to do a lot of heavy lifting in terms of exposition and introducing the characters all while also trying to emotionally engage the audience and often a show’s “magic” — whether that is a character or a story thread — isn’t discovered until several episodes in. All I’m saying is that this list should be a LOT longer than 10 shows.
You know what, Candace Bushnell? Fair point.
When people ask me if I’m Team Big or Team Aidan, I loudly proclaim my love for Harry Goldenblatt.

I don’t know how I feel about Walter White being in a Super Bowl ad, but I think I’m somewhere around “not great.”
You can watch the first episode of Showtime’s Boys in Blue below. It premieres on Showtime on January 6.
Some good news: Damar Hamlin is showing “remarkable improvement.” He’s still critical, but appears to be neurologically intact and making steady progress.
