UPDATE:
Disney CEO Bob Chapek has apologized to LGBTQ employees and announced a pause for political donations in Florida. https://t.co/0NKcPALHji pic.twitter.com/QSmM3Rvmo0

Now. I will point out that he’s pausing ALL political donations in Florida, not just donations for the sponsors of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which is one way to hedge the entire issue.
While LGBTQ+ groups and employees criticize Disney for not doing enough to protest Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill and Texas’ hateful attack on trans kids, they are also being targeted from the other political side, who think they’re doing too much. Ron DeSantis attacked Disney as a “woke corporation” that will not force him to back down on his spiteful legislation.

And The Parents Television and Media Council (PTC) are REAL MAD that the Netflix Marvel series, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders, are being moved to Disney+. PTC put out a statement warning Disney that adding the R-rated series to Disney+ would ruin their family-friendly brand. Now, Disney has tried to navigate just this thing by adding parental controls to the streaming service, but PTC would rather Disney do their parenting for them, apparently.
I will say that it’s an interesting quandary Disney has found itself navigating: when Disney+ first debuted, they did try to keep it as G- and PG-rated as possible, using Hulu as the vehicle for their more adult or controversial titles: for instance moving Love, Victor from Disney+ to Hulu because it featured a gay teen love story. However! They clearly want to keep all of their Marvel content in one place: it’s more valuable to them to have all the Marvel properties together than spread across the streaming universe — but a lot of that content is very adult. I guess they have calculated that making Disney+ home of all things Marvel no matter how mature is worth pissing off the likes of PTC and other conservative groups.
Jussie Smollett was sentenced to five months in prison for faking a hate crime. He also was “ordered to pay $120,000 restitution to the city of Chicago, plus a $25,000 fine, and to serve 30 months of probation.” He maintained his innocence during his sentencing and announced that he’s not suicidal, so if anything happens to him while he’s in prison, he didn’t do it to himself. What a sad, terrible story.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s longtime PR firm has fired them.
One of the “Joe Millionaires” — the poor one — has already broken up with the woman he chose on the show. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), the millionaire “Joe Millionaire” is still with his choice. (For now.)
The Afterparty may not be as witty as Only Murders in the Building, but it is a clever ride in its own right, exploring different movie and TV genres in each episode. If you’ve watched the series all the way through, this is a good piece about how the show used clever cinematography to get at the truth of who the killer was.
