Everyone at The View is now talking shit about how much they hated working with Meghan McCain and I’m loving it. A thing I hadn’t taken into consideration about this story: back in March, James Goldston stepped down as the President of ABC News after being in the position for seven years. He was replaced in May with Kimberly Godwin, the first Black woman to run a network news department. It sounds like Goldston had been protecting McCain, but Godwin did not have time for her bullshit. This is even more interesting in light of the fact that Goldston resigned soon after a controversy erupted around the Vice President for Talent and Business, Barbara Fedida, the woman who was accused of being openly racist, while ironically enough, she was tasked with diversifying ABC News. What I am saying is that I am hardly shocked that it was a white man who turned a blind eye to overt racism in his department who was protecting Meghan McCain this entire time.
Well, this is interesting: Bert V. Royal, the creator of Cruel Summer won’t be back for season two, because he actually left the series after filming the pilot. He still received writing credits for the entire season despite no longer being on the show, but season two will see him off the show altogether.
Peacock will be the new first streaming home for Universal’s films beginning in 2022, moving from HBO. This only makes sense as both Peacock and Universal are both parts of the NBCUniversal family.
Although it certainly feels like Netflix cancels a lot of shows after only one season, they actually cancel fewer than the broadcast networks. Additionally, they order straight to series, rather than make pilots, so when you add in all the pilots that networks order but then never turn into a series, Netflix’s cancelation rate is much, much lower.

I don’t know y’all. The case numbers are ticking up thanks to a combination of the Delta variant of the virus which is more virulent and more contagious and the reluctance of some 30% of our population to get vaccinated. Last week the 7-day average was 11,534; today that number is 12,914. And considering how many people traveled this past weekend, it’s very likely we’ll see another spike in a couple of weeks.
Fortunately, it appears that the vaccines do protect us from this variant, but the number of people getting the vaccine has steeply declined, somewhere well below one million doses a day. And I know I’ve harped on this before, but it’s worth the reminder that kids under 12 can’t get the vaccine, so as we head into the summer camp season, doctors are understandably concerned. And rightfully so: This happened in my backyard.
The infuriating thing is just how much politics has played into this vaccine disinformation campaign. It’s not surprising, but the vaccination maps line up pretty clearly with the 2020 election map. Of the top 25 most vaccinated states, President Biden won 21 of them. Of the 25 least vaccinated, Former President Disinformation Campaign won 21.
And then there’s this: “The differences between Republicans and Democrats on the issue of vaccinations are stark, just as they were about reopening the economy during the worst of the pandemic. The survey finds that 86 percent of Democrats have received at least one shot of a vaccine, compared with 45 percent of Republicans. Another 7 percent of Democrats say they are likely to do so, compared with 4 percent of Republicans.”
