Happy Constitution Day, y’all! This is the day in 1787 that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document that gave birth to this great nation. And it is the perfect moment to remind Pam Bondi, J.D. Vance, President Dictator on Day One, the entire Republican party, and Fox News that the First Amendment still exists, and they can’t just label speech they don’t like “hate speech” and threaten journalists.
For those of you who don’t want to click on the clickies, the long and short of it is, Attorney General Pam Bondi has threatened to “target” what she calls “hate speech” in the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk, and threatening employers who don’t fire employees who say “horrible” things about him. That, of course, is in violation of the First Amendment, and ironically enough, against Kirk’s own message: “Hate speech does not exist legally in America. There’s ugly speech. There’s gross speech. There’s evil speech. And ALL of it is protected by the First Amendment. Keep America free.”
And here’s President Ischemic Strokes threatening ABC News’ Jon Karl when he pointed out that his own allies believe “hate speech is free speech.”

One more time for those in the back: private employers can fire you for saying or posting something they find offensive. You can be “cancelled” by your job, your friends, your family, by the internet itself for saying something they disagree with or find distasteful. But the government can not punish or prevent you from speaking out. That’s what the “free speech” part of the First Amendment means, full stop.
