How fucking dare he.

I’m going to get to the TV stuff, I promise, but first a rant.

Yesterday, two stories broke around the same time involving Former President Fascist: one arrived in The New York Times, the other from The Atlantic. I urge you to read both.

The New York Times was finally able to get Former President Dictator on Day One’s former Chief of Staff, retired General John Kelly on the record with his very pointed criticisms of his former boss. Apparently, Former President Dementia’s comments about the “enemy from within” were the final straw for Kelly:

“And I think this issue of using the military on — to go after — American citizens is one of those things I think is a very, very bad thing — even to say it for political purposes to get elected — I think it’s a very, very bad thing, let alone actually doing it,” Mr. Kelly said.

Mr. Kelly said that Mr. Trump was repeatedly told dating back to his first year in office why he should not use the U.S. military against Americans and the limits on his authority to do so. Mr. Trump nevertheless continued while in office to push the issue and claim that he did have the authority to take such actions, Mr. Kelly said.

“Originally, conversation would be: Mr. President, that’s outside your authority, or you know that’s a routine use, you really don’t want to do that inside the United States,” he said. “But now that he’s talking about it as ‘I’m gonna do it’ is, again, it’s disturbing.”

If anyone is, Mr. Kelly is in a position to know that we must take Former President Insurrectionist literally.

John Kelly also confirmed that Former President Nazi has feelings about Adolph Hitler.

“He commented more than once that, ‘You know, Hitler did some good things, too,’” Mr. Kelly said Mr. Trump told him.

“First of all, you should never say that,” Mr. Kelly said that he told Mr. Trump. “But if you knew what Hitler was all about from the beginning to the end, everything he did was in support of his racist, fascist life, you know, the, you know, philosophy, so that nothing he did, you could argue, was good — it was certainly not done for the right reason.”

Mr. Kelly said that would usually end the conversation. But Mr. Trump would occasionally bring it up again.

Kelly also confirmed again, on the record, that Former President Baby Hitler has absolutely no respect for our soldiers, and absolutely called them “losers and suckers.” (You can find my original rant about that at the link.)

“The time in Paris was not the only time that he ever said it,” Mr. Kelly said, referring to reports that Mr. Trump told him that he did not want to visit a cemetery where American service members killed during World War I were buried.

“Whenever John McCain’s name came up, he’d go through this rant about him being a loser, and all those people were suckers, and why do you people think that people getting killed are heroes? And he’d go through this rant.”

“To me, I could never understand why he was that way — he may be the only American citizen that feels that way about those who gave their lives or served their country,” Mr. Kelly said.

Former President Enemies From Within’s fascination with Hitler shows up in The Atlantic piece as well, with more stories from John Kelly:

In their book, The Divider: Trump in the White House, Peter Baker and Susan Glasser reported that Trump asked John Kelly, his chief of staff at the time, “Why can’t you be like the German generals?” Trump, at various points, had grown frustrated with military officials he deemed disloyal and disobedient. (Throughout the course of his presidency, Trump referred to flag officers as “my generals.”) According to Baker and Glasser, Kelly explained to Trump that German generals “tried to kill Hitler three times and almost pulled it off.” This correction did not move Trump to reconsider his view: “No, no, no, they were totally loyal to him,” the president responded.

This week, I asked Kelly about their exchange. He told me that when Trump raised the subject of “German generals,” Kelly responded by asking, “‘Do you mean Bismarck’s generals?’” He went on: “I mean, I knew he didn’t know who Bismarck was, or about the Franco-Prussian War. I said, ‘Do you mean the kaiser’s generals? Surely you can’t mean Hitler’s generals? And he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, Hitler’s generals.’ I explained to him that Rommel had to commit suicide after taking part in a plot against Hitler.” Kelly told me Trump was not acquainted with Rommel.

… Trump praised aspects of Hitler’s leadership. “He said, ‘Well, but Hitler did some good things,’” Kelly recalled. “I said, ‘Well, what?’ And he said, ‘Well, (Hitler) rebuilt the economy.’ But what did he do with that rebuilt economy? He turned it against his own people and against the world.” Kelly admonished Trump: “I said, ‘Sir, you can never say anything good about the guy. Nothing.’”

But setting aside the alarming love of one of History’s Greatest Monsters for a moment, the piece opens with a story that confirms John Kelly’s assertion that he called soldiers, our men and women who put their lives on the line for this country, for this idea of a country, “losers and suckers,” and it involves Houston’s own Vanessa Guillén.

If you are unfamiliar with her story, Guillén was a 20-year-old Army soldier stationed at Fort Hood. She was a Houston native, born to two Mexican immigrants. She was an excellent student and always wanted to be a soldier. She joined the Army after high school, where she was sexually harassed by an unnamed sergeant. However, Guillén didn’t want to report him because she was worried that it might bring unwanted attention to the fact that her mother was undocumented. Soon after she mentioned the harassment to her mother, on April 22, 2020, Vanessa Giullén went missing. Her family came to believe that the Army was not investigating her disappearance properly because of the harassment allegations, and they and the Latino community began protesting the lack of information in the case. Some two months later, Guillén’s remains were found, and soon after, a fellow enlisted soldier confessed to killing her. He later escaped custody and killed himself before he could be arrested again.

The case brought national attention to how the military handles sexual harassment and assault cases, and later President Biden signed “the National Defense Authorization Act, which also enacted provisions of the ‘I Am Vanessa Guillén Act.'” The law protects soldiers from retribution for reporting harassment, and removes investigations of harassment from the accuser’s command structure.

But you’ll notice that the murder took place back in April of 2020, when Former President Adjudicated Rapist was in office. After her remains were found, he invited her family to the White House and made a promise: “If I can help you out with the funeral, I’ll help—I’ll help you with that,” he said. “I’ll help you out. Financially, I’ll help you.”

Some months after Guillén’s funeral, Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy revealed that an investigation into the case exposed “leadership failures” and forced them to “take a critical look at our systems, our policies, and ourselves.” This apparently pissed off Former President Losers and Suckers, and he brought this into an Oval Office meeting:

In an Oval Office meeting on December 4, 2020, officials gathered to discuss a separate national-security issue. Toward the end of the discussion, Trump asked for an update on the McCarthy investigation. Christopher Miller, the acting secretary of defense (Trump had fired his predecessor, Mark Esper, three weeks earlier, writing in a tweet, “Mark Esper has been terminated”), was in attendance, along with Miller’s chief of staff, Kash Patel. At a certain point, according to two people present at the meeting, Trump asked, “Did they bill us for the funeral? What did it cost?”

According to attendees, and to contemporaneous notes of the meeting taken by a participant, an aide answered: Yes, we received a bill; the funeral cost $60,000.

Trump became angry. “It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a fucking Mexican!” He turned to his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and issued an order: “Don’t pay it!” Later that day, he was still agitated. “Can you believe it?” he said, according to a witness. “Fucking people, trying to rip me off.”

As a woman, as a Texan, as a Houstonian, as the niece, daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of veterans, I am so profoundly outraged and insulted by this man’s conduct and comments. I know this is nothing new: he has repeatedly shown us exactly how little he thinks about our military — and how much he thinks of Hitler — and yet somehow I find myself shocked and furious once again.

Vanessa Guillén joined the military out of a love for this country, where she was abused and viciously murdered, and this is how he speaks about her? This is what he thinks of our soldiers? The people who join the military sacrifice a life of normalcy for themselves and their families in protection of our Constitution and our way of life. They, like John Kelly’s own son, often give up their lives for these values, for these higher ideals. And this repugnant, selfish, narcissistic scam artist, felon, and sexual assaulter — this man who has done nothing but take from this country: overcharging the Secret Service at his golf clubs; stealing classified documents; overseeing deals for his daughter and her husband in the billions from foreign sources; this man who has sacrificed NOTHING — he has the audacity to speak about Vanessa Guillén, or any of our soldiers in this way? It makes me sick to my stomach, and it makes me even sicker to know that close to half of this country will see this story and vote for him anyway.

Please vote. We can not allow a Hitler-loving dictator-wannabe who hates our military, our Constitution, and our very freedoms back into the White House where his power and hatred will be unchecked.

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Martha Stewart has high standards and the Golden Bachelorette casting directors are not capable of matching them, apparently.

Meanwhile, Bruce Campbell is a big fan of the show. Unfortunately, he appears to be happily married, otherwise he’d be a terrific Golden Bachelor.

Chrissy Metz opened up about being abused as a child in relation to her weight, and how she still struggles even with her celebrity: “Why does my weight equate my worthiness?” she asked. “And as a 12-year-old kid, it’s like, how do you reconcile that in your mind?”

Someone call Scott Speedman, Scott Foley, and J.J. Abrams.

A decision from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office about the Menendez brothers’s fate has been moved up to this week. And I’m sure that has nothing to do with the election that George Gascón is facing.

What’s the deal with streamers teaming up with delivery services? Call it the Prime effect.

So we’re just supposed to take it on her word that the Countess Luann is friends with Tilda Swinton? Alright, sure.

Love horror movies? Here’s an interesting long piece about how our favorite scary movies reflect back to us what we are going through as a country.

Brace yourselves, ladies of SCAD.

Hoping Rachel Ray is doing better with whatever she’s dealing with.

Keeping Nene Leakes’ son Brentt in our thoughts.

Oh no, Matthew Sweet! Please recover quickly!
