Today, it’s The Boys‘ turn – maybe my favorite series that’s currently on air. Again, below there will be A TON of spoilers, so please do not proceed if you have not finished the very dark — and weirdly prescient — fourth season. You’ve been warned.

As was announced at the beginning of the season, season five, the next season, will be the show’s last. And Eric Kripke promises he has an ending in mind.

Laz Alonso has been unsuccessfully pitching five seasons and a movie.

Amazon isn’t thrilled to lose the show, it’s been a huge ratings hit for themHowever, Kripke promises not only more Gen V, but there’s a Mexican spinoff in the works, as well as possibly a couple of other projects. This is the superhero universe I’ve been looking for.

Speaking of Gen V, if you’ve read this far without having watched or finished season four — why?  .. But if so, you should definitely watch Gen V before watching this season.

This Supernatural cameo was … unexpected in MANY ways.

“He can’t blame anyone but himself,” Kripke says. “When he came up for the role, I said, ‘Let me talk to him, because we’re friends, and we have a long history,’ and I called him, and I’m like, ‘Brother, here is exactly what this character is going to be doing. You have to be down for that. I don’t want you to be surprised,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, that sounds hilarious. I’m totally in.’”

“We just did, obviously, the craziest s–t,” Kripke continues. “I mean, just to even film that sauna scene alone, we needed to build a photoreal prosthetic butt of Rob’s, because he has to eat out his own butt over and over and over again and keep moving in different positions. Even that alone is a victory for mankind.”

The Deep’s octopus girlfriend’s voice sounded familiar for a reason: she was Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton. (And somehow this wasn’t the weirdest role she’s ever had.) Here’s how they convinced her and Will Ferrell to be a part of the show.

Keep Claudia Doumit in your thoughts. THAT moment was unscripted.

And yes, in that dungeon scene, that was Jack Quaid in the Webweaver suit.

Erin Moriarty gave fans a tour of the dungeon on her Instagram.

As for that Kessler reveal, Kripke talks about what it took to keep it secret and make it work.

An actual Congressman realized that the show used actual footage from the House of Representatives — and he wasn’t in it.

Claudia Doumit on her character’s fate: “It was really shocking, but it was also really beautiful, and so well done,” Doumit told Variety. “And most of all, it was a great death — that’s an honor in and of itself. I’m really happy to got a fun, twisted death, which is just such a great rite of passage for characters on this show. So I was really happy about it, which sounds like such an insane thing to say about being split in half.”

But that Frenchie and Kimiko moment!

And then that moment.

The Boys‘ actors discuss that bleak ending for season 4.

Looks like Homelander’s daddy issues will be a part of the final season. I swear, if Jared Padelecki’s character doesn’t have a scene with Soldier Boy, WE RIOT.

Here are 12 ways the show differs from the comic book it was based on. Fun little fact: Hughie in the comic books was modeled on Simon Pegg.

Here’s a piece about this season of The Boys that’s aged like mayonnaise left out in the sun.

Speaking of, this interview came out in June. I would have loved to have seen Eric Kripke’s face on July 13.

DEADLINE: In the vein of hating humanity, you have the murderous Homelander on trial in a very Trumpian scenario and stoking the divisions in America with Starlight supporters accused of murder, and more exploding heads. In that there is a Presidential election that kicks off Season 4. There’s a lot of betrayal, cause, hey, it’s The Boys, but what’s your take about dropping something like this storyline in the middle of an election that is already weirder than anything you’ve created fictionally?

KRIPKE: I mean, look, the story was heading there from the beginning or at least from the minute Victoria Newman (Claudia Doumit) was introduced, which was early in Season 2. We were always heading here, and so part of it is this is just where the overall story was going.

By the way, a version of this story is one of the major storylines from the comic books.

DEADLINE: Yes.

KRIPKE: That it happened to fall during an election year, I think that makes it feel …for a show that has always tried to be really current and capturing the zeitgeist. I think it’s another lineup of reality in the show.

You know, I hope people don’t think that it’s too much or too real. I mean, we still have people exploding and a lot of lasers coming out of the eyes, and penises being used in new and exciting ways also

DEADLINE: Yes, but the context is relevant. Also, even more than before, it has the stink of Trump all over it, with that mentality, at least for Homelander and a few others, of “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters,” like Trump said in 2016.

KRIPKE: Well, I certainly feel, and I know a lot of the writers do to that, the immediate future looks scary and is creating anxiety, at the very least. So, you know, we’re just kind of expressing how we feel. I’m not trying to change minds. I’m just trying to communicate my own fear and anxiety about this upcoming year.

DEADLINE: As they used to say, it is once again, ripped from the headlines.

KRIPKE: Yeah, unfortunately, the real world has evolved to reflect more of the show. I think things have gotten so crazy and off the rails, that things happen in reality now all the time that that in the writers room if someone had pitched that we’d have said that was too broad, or insane.

James of The New York Times gets it:

Fascism in America, if it ever came, might not fly in wearing a cape. But it might well trade on American images of virility, of superiority, of bigness, of winning. It would have a style, and that style might well be kitschy, loud and as unmissable as the logo on a superhero’s chest.

Fascists have long been entwined with superheroes, providing a reliable source of villains for patriotic stories since Captain America decked Hitler. The Marvel universe more recently used the Nazi-like Hydra organization as a multiheaded big bad.

Even in a polarized time, you can generally get people to agree that Nazis are rotten. But agreeing on what the fascist impulse is and where it lies today — that gets trickier. One irony, which “The Boys” sometimes explores and other times simply embodies, is that superhero stories often cater to the same fantasies that authoritarian movements do: a strong hand to protect you from predators; swift, extrajudicial street justice; powerful leaders who can act unilaterally; the simple thrill of watching an enemy be obliterated.

Here’s what we know about season five which will not come out before 2026, so settle in, guys.

  1. Never had heard of THE BOYS…might read about it on IMDb just to see why you like it so much but right now, it doesn’t sound that interesting to me. But I shall read about it.

    1. It genuinely is not for everyone, and I wouldn’t recommend it for those who are more sensitive to violence or sexual content, because this show really GOES THERE. But it is an incisive satire of our current political situation, the whole superhero worship thing, corporate media and how they all tie together. But again, not for everyone, for sure!
