THE GASP I GASPETHED:
First, a rant
I was in New York City earlier this week, and I spent a long time contemplating going down to the courthouse where Former President ShitsinPants is currently being tried for tampering with business documents and an election over hush money payments to a porn star. But in the end, I thought it better that I not do anything that might get me arrested.
Which, as it turns out, was for the best because when I tell you the rage I felt when I saw that Former President Wannabe Fuhrer’s campaign posted a video on Truth Social that threatens a “Unified Reich” under a second Fucko Presidency …
His campaign claims that this video was not created by them, but instead was just some random video an unnamed staffer posted onto the site: so no harm, no foul. Except … what, exactly, does this say about the kind of people who are working for the campaign? Why are you hiring unabashed Nazis? Also, your guy literally said that he would “be a dictator” … but only on “day one.” HE IS LITERALLY SAYING IT OUT LOUD. HE IS TELLING US WHAT HE INTENDS TO DO AND HE IS NOT JOKING, Y’ALL.
I’m sorry for screaming, but the thing is, this morning I watched a segment on Morning Joe that featured a roundtable discussion with a bunch of reasonable people, including one Susan Page, a very distinguished journalist who is currently the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for USA Today. When the panel was discussing this very topic, she dismissed it as a “dumb mistake.” Later, when the conversation turned to Former President Mushroom Dick saying that he is considering a ban on birth control should he return to office, this same very nice lady again poo-pooed the idea, arguing that contraception bans are a step “too far” for voters even in Red States. EXCEPT THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT THE RIGHT IS SAYING THEY INTEND TO DO. Abortion bans are also extremely unpopular with voters across the country AND YET HERE WE ARE. Also, do you think they give a shit about what the “voters” want? Grow up.
I don’t blame MAGA voters, is the thing. They are openly voting for what they want: a return to a time when women and minorities did not have equal rights and were kept down by the boot of white patriarchy. No, I blame our country’s descent towards fascism on the very nice ladies like Susan Page who refuse to believe the right intends to do exactly what they are telling us they are going to do if we restore them to full power. I agree that at one point it would have been unimaginable that a presidential candidate — who in some polls is leading — would boast that he will bring back a “unified Reich” and it would have been unimaginable that a minority of Christo-fascists would openly be advocating a ban on birth control BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO REBOOT THEIR IMAGINATIONS BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW.

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
Both the Los Angeles police and the DEA are continuing to investigate Matthew Perry’s death and how he acquired the ketamine that ultimately killed him. Meanwhile, Courteney Cox says that Perry “visits [her] a lot.”
We are literally inches away from a full Supernatural reunion on The Boys, you guys. MAKE THIS HAPPEN.
Scarlett Johansson says that she was approached by Open AI to use her voice as its “Sky” voice for ChapGPT, but that she declined. So when she heard that they used a voice that was “eerily similar,” she was understandably pissed. Open AI was like, “NUH UH, it’s a different actress who just happens to sound exactly like Scarlett Johansson BUT WE’LL TAKE IT DOWN SINCE YOU’RE BEING A BIG BABY ABOUT IT please don’t sue us.”
That Netflix/Peacock/Apple TV+ bundle that Comcast is offering their customers will only cost $15 a month. (The streamers will all be ad-supported packages at this level.)
Networks are continuing to cut episode orders on even their biggest shows in order to save money.
CNN will make the June 27 Presidential Debate available to other networks for simulcast (if it actually happens, about which I remain doubtful).
Johnny Knoxville (and The Prank Show and Jimmy Kimmel’s production company) are being sued for Johnny Knoxville being very Johnny Knoxville.
John Stamos honored Bob Saget on his birthday with a photo of their Full House “family.”
People are mad about a four-year-old disclaimer AMC added to the beginning of Goodfellas, because there is an unending supply of things that people can get mad about.
George R.R. Martin has given an update on The Hedge Knight, explaining that it will be a shorter series than Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, and with a very different tone. And he managed to hint that he might be finishing up Winds of Winter at the same time?
THE HEDGE KNIGHT will be a lot shorter than GAME OF THRONES or HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, with a much different tone… but it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe Ira Parker and his team are doing a great job. I hope to visit the shoot come July, when I swing by Belfast on my way to the worldcon in Glasgow. The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, THE SWORN SWORD and THE MYSTERY KNIGHT will follow. By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish THE WINDS OF WINTER).
STOP GETTING MY HOPES UP, GEORGE, AND WRITE.

Get back on your feet soon, Nina Dobrev!
Get an Uber next time, Kathryn Dennis.
Congratulations, you crazy kids!
Congratulations, Colton Underwood and Jordan C. Brown!
And congratulations, Niles Fitch! This is genuinely so sweet I can’t stand it:

Horrible news about our beloved and gifted commentator Alice Stewart. Just awful. We are all gutted. https://t.co/07iMO30HWP

Such an awful shock. Alice Stewart was a consummate pro who made every show she was on so much BETTER. More importantly, she had a huge heart and a generous spirit https://t.co/GA0B2LxKNM

I’m very sad about this news. Alice was kind, decent, hard-working and a woman whose faith sustained her. She was a breath of fresh air -always professional- at a time when lack of decorum and civility reign in political discussions. May she rest in peace. https://t.co/e7qSWjzZOW

Alice Stewart was a woman’s woman who brought kindness and support along with smarts and expertise. I met her in Iowa in 2007 covering the Huckabee presidential campaign and worked with her in politics before I got to call her a CNN colleague. I can’t believe she’s gone. pic.twitter.com/GfReopigt7

I'm devastated by the news of Alice Stewart's untimely passing. We were colleagues at @CNN and on the senior advisory board of the @HarvardIOP. You'd be hard put to find a nicer, kinder person. She will be missed by all who knew her. https://t.co/6efBDuuNAq

My heart is broken over the passing of our dear colleague Alice Stewart. We’ve been friends going back to the 2012 campaign. We spent so many weekends talking politics with the wonderful @MariaTCardona – they always spoke so passionately but with kindness and civility. Alice was… pic.twitter.com/fv97A2LP7w

I feel your rage… but… Susan Page is complicit, not a disbeliever. USA Today has always been a conservative media voice while dressing up as a centrist rag. And if she truly IS in denial, then she’s no journalist. Any informed journalist knows the score here.
Fair enough.
