It was a big night for Taylor at the Grammys, but these women stole the show …

Otter + pugs = I am helpless to resist.

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

The Grammys were last night, and I actually watched them the entire way through for the first time in maybe 30 years, no exaggeration. (If anything, it might have been much longer than that.) But to my surprise, it was a great show, with inspiring appearances by Joni Mitchell and Celine Dion.

The in memoriam was genuinely amazing, with performances from Stevie Wonder; John Baptiste, and Annie Lennox and Fantasia Barrino’s tribute to Tina Turner was uplifting:

Jay-Z’s defense of his wife was … something. On the one hand, it’s kinda awful to shit on other people’s big night; on the other hand … no lies detected, so:

Miley Cyrus’ performance of “Flowers” was an entire flex:

And of course, there was the Taylor Swift of it all, as she became the first artist to ever win four Albums of the Year. As for whether or not she snubbed Celine when she accepted the award, she made it up immediately with a backstage photo that suggested there were no hard feelings.

The one dark moment of the night was when after winning three Grammys, rapper Killer Mike was arrested and taken away in handcuffs for a misdemeanor altercation. Some straight-up bullshit. The cops didn’t have to arrest him then and there for this.

But for many people, the highlight of the night was Tracy Chapman’s duet with Luke Combs on “Fast Car,” her first performance in years.

And thank you to Combs for his reverance for both the song itself and for Chapman. It was a beautiful performance.

Alyssa Milano is not denying that she had Shannen Doherty fired from Charmed. At a panel at MegaCon in Orlando, Milano said:

“‘I think I’ve been very upfront and taken accountability for and apologized for whatever part I played in the situation,’ she confessed. ‘I have been very forthcoming about that. I don’t know how else to fix it.'”

That’s definitely not a denial.

And then because of the DRAMA of it all, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs were on a panel at the same convention, where Doherty responded to Milano’s statement with some pointed words:

“Holly and I, we were not mean on the podcast – my podcast, let’s be clear. In fact, we went in, and we edited out anything that we thought would cause more drama. We simply told the truth because the truth actually does matter. But, we wanted to try to save you – the fans – from heartbreak as much as humanly possible. At this point in my life, with my health diagnosis – sorry if I start to cry – with fighting a horrific disease every day of my life, it is also incredibly important to me that the truth actually be told as opposed to the narrative that others put out there for me. We told it together. We told our truth, and we are standing by our truth.

There is no revisionist history happening in the truth that I know we told. There is no brush flinging, or shoe flinging, or lateness to set, there is no mediator for months on end. I recall the facts as if I was still living in them and, what I will say is what somebody else may call drama is an actual trauma for me, that I have been through it for an extremely long time, and it is only through my battle with cancer that I decided to address this trauma and be open and honest about it so that I can actually heal from a livelihood that was taken away from me. A livelihood that was taken away from my family. Because someone else wanted to be number one on the call sheet. That is the truth.”

OH.

Speaking of call sheets, the Yellowstone spinoff that (might) star Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer has more drama going on: Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Luke Grimes are not just demanding big pay hikes to be on the new series, but Reilly and Hauser also want to be in first position on the call sheet, ahead of the leads. LOL, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

The Night Agent is back in production following the strike shutdown, as is Cobra Kai. And The White Lotus will begin shooting in two weeks.

Paramount+ just pulled a ton of international series from the platform. Sorry if you didn’t get a chance to watch The Burning Girls or The Serial Killer’s Wife, they’re gone now.

And the reason they had to cut all those shows was to be able to afford Creed in this Paramount+ Super Bowl ad, one of the darkest, funniest ads I’ve seen in a hot minute:

Is The Traitors a ripoff of a 20-year-old BBC gameshow called … Traitor? If so, pretty bold to not even bother to rename it.

A thing I learned today: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Frank was inspired by one of the show’s producer’s fathers.

We have to wait until March 4 for the return of Jason on General Hospital.

I sure do wish DirecTV would quit picking fights with station groups over carriage agreements.

George Stephanopoulos shutting J.D. Vance down and ending the interview when Vance just starts spouting stupid shit about how the President can defy the Supreme Court … inject that directly into my veins. Do more of this, journalists:

Hoping King Charles III gets well soon, I guess.

Renewals

Cancellations

  • Ratched has been canceled after one season on Netflix.
  • Early Start has been canceled at CNN after 12 years — sorta, but not really. It’s actually being rebranded as CNN This Morning (which already exists) but Early Start‘s host Kasie Hunt will be replacing the current CNN This Morning hosts, Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly.

In Development

Casting News

  • Sam Waterston is leaving Law & Order on NBC after more than 400 episodes. Tony Goldwyn has been cast as the new DA.
  • Miloš Biković will NOT be joining the cast of The White Lotus on HBO after all, not after the government of Ukraine criticized his inclusion.
  • Shane Gillis will host Saturday Night Live on NBC on February 24, which is interesting because Gillis was fired from SNL one week after being hired in 2019 when videos of him making “racist, homophobic, Islamophobic and misogynistic jokes” started making the rounds. And according to The A.V. Club, nothing much has changed:

“Gillis has continued to make those kinds of comments in the years after being fired, perpetrating COVID skepticism, associating with alt-right figures, and making anti-trans remarks (“No way women wrote the fuckin’ Matrix… and then I googled it and it’s just dudes in wigs,” he said of the Wachowski sisters in a podcast episode in 2023). During an episode of his podcast last year, he entertained a lengthy discussion about Jewish people “controlling the media.” Also in 2023, he appeared as a guest on Sam Hyde and Nick Rochefort’s podcast, nodding and laughing along as one of the hosts appeared to make a rape joke about Kate McKinnon and the other questioned why Lorne Michaels has dual citizenship with the United States and Israel.”

Mark Your Calendar

  • Stormy will premiere on Peacock on March 18.
  • Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them will premiere on February 17.
  • Furies will debut on Netflix on March 1.

R.I.P.

Carl Weathers, Actor and former NFL player best known for playing Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies, but also known for his roles in Predator, Happy Gilmore, Arrested Development, and The Mandalorian, in addition to guest roles in numerous TV shows and movies

My favorite story about Carl Weathers? That it was his idea to make his Arrested Development character really cheap:

Don Murray, Oscar-nominated actor in Bus Stop, Knots Landing, The Outcasts, Twin Peaks: The Return and many others

Ian Lavender, British actor

Jonnie Irwin, British TV presenter

Aston Barrett, Bassist for Bob Marley and the Wailers

Wayne Kramer, Co-founder of Detroit punk band MC5
