Jon Stewart’s show is ending at Apple TV+ and ‘The Daily Show’ still doesn’t have a host … see where I’m going with this?

Hasan Minhaj is officially not going to be your Daily Show host. Reportedly, Minhaj all but had the gig tied up, but then that New Yorker piece came out …

So a bunch of mega-stars led by George Clooney went to SAG-AFTRA and were like, “What if we paid more in annual dues to the union to help break this strike?” and I was like, “I mean, it’s nice they are offering that, I’m sure, but I’m not clear on why actors paying more to the union will have any impact on the contract that the actors are trying to hammer out with the studios, but what do I know?” So I’m pleased to see that the head of SAG-AFTRA, Fran Drescher, essentially said the same thing.

Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA is urging actors to not dress up as characters from struck works. So, put away those Barbie costumes, guys.

A thing I learned today: Mulholland Drive was originally written as a Twin Peaks spin-off series starring Audrey as she makes her way through Hollywood.

Justin Timberlake is going to lose this war. Just stand down and keep your mouth shut, my dude.

Jim Jordan can’t stop won’t stop losing. The first vote found 20 Republicans voting against him; the second vote, it was 22; this time 25 Republicans voted against him — and 7 members weren’t even in attendance.

War reporting is, as seen above, dangerous and fast-moving, but especially in this particular tinder box, media outlets need to be extra vigilant in making sure they are reporting the facts, and not speculation. What a terrifying moment.

Cancellations

  • The Problem with Jon Stewart has been canceled at Apple TV+ after two seasons because he wanted to discuss China and A.I. and they didn’t want him to. If you’re not going to make Roy Wood Jr. host of The Daily Show, Comedy Central, I’ve got some ideas … (It will never happen, and nor should it — Stewart is an old man now, and The Daily Show is a young person’s game. That said, what I would have given to have had him the host during the past 7 years … )

  • Trillion Game, a Japanese drama, has been acquired by Netflix.
