Uh oh! Former President Crimes just got indicted for criming again!

An addendum to yesterday’s post. Also, someone appears to be chopping onions near me:

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

The big news of the day is obviously that Former President Conspiracist has been indicted AGAIN, this time on four federal charges: three conspiracies and one count of obstruction related to his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election before and on January 6th. Former President GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL has been accused of defrauding the United States by Special Counsel Jack Smith; a conspiracy to obstruct the official certification of the Electoral College vote; a conspiracy to deprive citizens of their Constitutional right to have their votes counted; and of obstructing or attempting to obstruct an official proceeding.

The indictment makes clear that this is not about Former President Lying Mango lying about winning the election — he has a First Amendment right to lie all he wants. He is being charged for what he did in an attempt to overthrow the election, the actions he took, including conspiring to create alternative slates of electors; pressuring Mike Pence and the Georgia Secretary of State to lie (going so far as telling Pence that he’s “too honest” which suggests that he knew it was lies all the way down) and take actions they were not legally allowed to; and to appoint a lackey in the Department of Justice to pressure the states to overturn their elections in Former President Insurrectionist’s favor.

Oh, and there are 6 co-conspirators mentioned (but unnamed) in the indictment who have not yet been charged, potentially to keep this case as streamlined as possible so that it can be tried before the election. But I wouldn’t be resting easy, Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Sydney Powell, Jeffrey Clark, Kenneth Cheesebro, and mystery Conspirator #6. Y’all’s time is coming.

And it might be sooner than we think:

Special Counsel Jack Smith did not charge Former President Comically Bad At This with inciting violence (though there’s an argument he possibly could have) probably to avoid First Amendment issues. Instead, he’s focusing on the acts that Former President “You’re Too Honest” took after court after court after court (more than 60!) found there was no election fraud. So … just be aware of the bullshit talking points the GOP is going to flood the zone within the coming months.

The judge assigned to this case, Judge Tanya Sue Chutkan, previously ruled that Former President Charlatan could not keep his documents from January 6 secret and that he had to turn them over to the January 6th committee. She is also known for being one of the harshest sentencers of January 6 rioters, and the only judge to hand down longer sentences than the government requested, God bless her.

Former President Arrested Again will be arraigned in Washington D.C. tomorrow. And I will be drinking champagne, again, while I count down his potential fourth indictment in Georgia. Cheers!

The WGA will meet with the AMPTP to negotiate on Friday. The Writers Strike is on its 92nd day. Let’s hope they come to terms soon because these posts are becoming a little thin.

Meanwhile, a group of Hollywood stars have donated $1 million each to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation to help support their fellow performers during the strike:

This is a wonderful interview with Sarah Snook about the ending of Succession;  the choices they made as actors in those final scenes; and, tellingly, how often it was Sarah, Jeremy, and Kieran in those scenes rather than Shiv, Kendall, and Roman.

Gabby Windey, the delightful former Bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars contestant, just came out as being in a relationship with a woman on The View, and I wish her all the happiness as far away from the male gaze as possible.

Sterling Harjo, the creator of Reservation Dogs explains that it was his choice — not FX’s — to end the series after three seasons: “I never wanted it to go further than it needed to. This season felt like it was the end. We find these characters in a very transitional period of their lives. You can’t keep transitioning forever in life. You either learn something or you don’t.” Especially for a coming-of-age series, that is a lovely point and clear-eyed realization on the part of Harjo.

Over on The Witcher, producer Tomasz Bagiński defends simplifying the original material for international audiences: “When a series is made for a huge mass of viewers, with different experiences, from different parts of the world, and a large part of them are Americans, these simplifications not only make sense, they are necessary. It’s painful for us, and for me too, but the higher level of nuance and complexity will have a smaller range, it won’t reach people. Sometimes it may go too far, but we have to make these decisions and accept them.” And as a fan of the series who has never read the books, I thank him for dumbing it down for me, honestly.

HBO is laying off more folks, this time in the P.R. department.
