The Boys returned today with the first three episodes — FINALLY. And I’m so excited by this that it’s all I’m going to talk about here.
Here’s a recap video of the previous two seasons, if you need a refresher — but I’ll warn you, it’s really only for people who have actually watched both seasons. This video will do nothing for you if you’re a newbie.
And if you are a newbie, I strongly recommend The Boys. I thought I wouldn’t like it, and now I’m the show’s biggest proselytizer. It’s A LOT — a lot of gore, some weird sex, very foul-mouthed, and it may not be for my more sensitive friends. But if you can handle it, it’s one of the best political and cultural satires I’ve ever seen, especially in our very dark, very weird ties.
Everyone keeps talking about how the first fifteen minutes of this new season tops “The Whale Scene” from last season. By the time you read this, I will probably have watched and can weigh in one way or another, but for now, I’ll just have to take everyone’s word for it. Just watched it, can confirm. And the comparison to The Whale Scene is … accurate.
And as for the infamous “Herogasm” sequence this season, according to Eric Kripke:
“The poor crew who had to film that, it was like a five or six-day sequence, they would come out of that house smoking cigarettes like they’re Martin Sheen in ‘Apocalypse Now,’ like they’ve just seen some shit,” he added. “I think the audience will reap the benefits of all of that insanity.”
(The Whale Scene, which is very NSFW and NSFPeople Who Love The Whales:)
The Boys, in all its ridiculous gore and over-the-top storytelling, is an argument against binge-watching, argues this Uproxx writer.
Here Jensen Ackles suggests that you will see ass in this season of The Boys. I mention this so that fans can fully prepare themselves.
Aquaman fans need to chill and develop a sense of humor.
