‘Modern Family’ is going to kill off a ‘significant’ character this season — let’s make wild guesses about who it will be!

Modern Family is killing off a “significant” character, which I thought we already knew? And it’s probably going to be Jay? I could see them killing off Shelly Duval’s character and claiming that she was a “major” character, but considering they already killed Phil’s mom, that would be a cop-out. I’m guessing contrary to all the “we’re open to another season” talk from the producers, this will, in fact, be the final season and it will see Jay dying and maybe one of the Dunphy kids either getting married or having a baby (or both).

Who do you think they’ll kill off?

Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen’s new series, Forever, debuted on Amazon today. Here’s a collection of some of there best SNL sketches together — although, “The Prince Show” is obviously the best.

Ten fun facts about BoJack Horseman as the series comes back for a fifth season.

Maybe let’s write some roles for Middle Eastern and North African characters who aren’t terrorists? JUST A THOUGHT.

The Media Action Network for Asian Americans is coming for Magnum P.I.

This isn’t TV news, but J.J. Abrams and his good luck charm, Greg Grunberg, are reuniting for Star Wars.

Just when I think the NRA has no mind left to lose, they go and do something like this.

“It’s the biggest pile of bull-dingy ever.” And now I’m a fan of the ~squints through glasses~ Carolina Panthers? 2018 is weird.

Fox News at peak Fox News.

CBS is making some of the original Murphy Brown episodes available, but not all of them? If I’m paying $5 a month for CBS (which I am not), I want ALL of the Murphy Brown, please.

Hey — yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Conan O’Brien being on late night, and to celebrate, he re-released the first episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien and announced that the rest of the shows will be available in a video archive beginning in January.

Because the show debuted in 1993, I was in college in San Antonio and able to watch it when it aired. My friends in Houston were not so lucky, as our local NBC outlet only broadcast Late Night with Conan O’Brien at 2 a.m. This became A Thing for Conan, who spent years trying to convince KPRC to broadcast the show in its actual 11:30 p.m. timeslot, and it inspired this classic series of bits, pitting Mattress Mac and the Hilton Furniture Guy against one another for a chance to be on the show:

And in other news, we are holding 12,800 children in detention centers. This is up from 2,400 IN MAY. It is 53 days until Election Day. If you’re not registered to vote, do so. If you are registered to vote, make sure you still are.

Time’s Up

OK, Julie Chen Moonves. That’s how the Chenbot signed off on Big Brother last night. She’s not long for CBS, methinks.

The other Talk hosts are happy about Jeff Fager’s firing.

If you are still interested in this whole Les Moonves – Jeff Fager – CBS – 60 Minutes hoo-ha, here are a couple of long-form pieces to read: “The Dark Side of Working for Les Moonves” & “At a Divided Network: What Now for CBS and ’60 Minutes’?

The woman who sparked this whole Predator story has identified herself in a powerful statement:

Keep your eye on the Brett Kavanaugh story. Something weird is going on over there.

The Wrap is doing a good and important series, called #AfterMeToo, where they talk to women and men who stepped forward to tell their stories, and what happened after. They can be found here.

Renewals

  • Absentia has been renewed for a second season by Amazon.

In Development

  • Designing Women is being rebooted. ABC has ordered a script commitment. I actually don’t mind when shows are rebooted — it doesn’t bother me as much as some people, apparently. But this is one of those shows I wish they would leave alone. The chance they are going to be able to recreate that particular cast’s alchemy is very small.
  • Hoops, a basketball drama from Lebron James and Elizabeth Banks, has been bought by NBC.
  • Lean on Me, a drama series based on the movie of the same name, is being developed by The CW.
  • Connect and Prodigal Son, both cop dramas, are being developed by Fox.
  • State of Wonder is being developed into a TV series.
  • The Good Girl is being developed into a TV series.
