Watch John Oliver explain why your local news might be soon taken over by right-wing nonsense peddlers

Hope you had a nice holiday! Everyone is still pretty much on vacation so there’s not much TV news out there to share. So instead, watch John Oliver take on Sinclair Broadcast Group and their intention to turn local news into right-wing propaganda in this great exposé and try to not despair (too much).

This is an interesting piece from The Hollywood Reporter about how government employees and politicians are portrayed on television. Leslie Knope, apparently, still inspires local politicians: “ever-optimistic Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) — has become a bit of an icon for civil servants around the country. Schur says he’s heard anecdotally that local government employees ‘have said that her hopeful vision of government was helpful in times of crisis.’ There were even Leslie Knope signs spotted at the Women’s March in January.”

Here is a long piece about Lena Headey, Cersei from Game of Thrones, in which she shares this story about a brave nurse who took her life in her own hands:

Starring on the biggest television show in the world brings plenty of such overtures, like more awkward photo requests — say, while sunbathing nearly naked in Ibiza — to a steady stream of pilgrims who want to tip a goblet with Cersei, the Baryshnikov of TV wine drinking.

But most common are fans channeling Septa Unella, the malignant nun who scolded Cersei during her infamous walk of atonement through Kings Landing in Season 5. (“Shame! Shame!”) Perhaps most egregious was a nurse who got caught up in the moment while helping Ms. Headey breast-feed in her hospital room, shortly after giving birth to her daughter. The story ends with the nurse, nipples in hand, chanting “Shame” as “she’s milking me like a human cow,” Ms. Headey said.

“I was flying on morphine, so it was sort of funny,” she said. “Had I been vaguely in the world, I might have been more offended.”

The head of Fox Sports has been fired in the wake of harassment charges. It’s almost as if there is a culture problem over at Fox…

Oh, for fuck’s sake, CNN is not threatening the Redditor who posted the wrestling gif, and that Redditor is not 15 years old, he’s a middle-aged man who knew better. (He apologized for making trouble and for being a racist, anti-semitic asshole before CNN talked to him by the way.) Also, it’s pretty rich that Trump’s defenders here are mad that CNN supposedly “blackmailed” this guy (which they did not) WHEN TRUMP ADMITTED ON TWITTER THAT HE THREATENED TO BLACKMAIL JOE SCARBOROUGH AND MIKA BRZEZINSKI WITH A NATIONAL ENQUIRER STORY. I literally can not, y’all.

You’re not helping, Michael Che.
