Soooooo, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico was asked who his favorite drag performer was, and without missing a beat, he answered, “Alyssa Edwards,” which is a solid, pro-Texas answer. However, his opponent, Ken Paxton, saw this as a huge opportunity to slander Talarico as being a weirdo, and put out an attack ad calling the drag icon Edwards, nee Justin Johnson, “sick and twisted.”
Johnson, who won RuPaul’s Drag Race Global Allstars, had his own reality series called Dancing Queen, and led a team that performed on America’s Got Talent, is not taking this sitting down. Johnson drafted an open letter to Paxton, declaring he is proud of his career and who he is, noting his faith and work as an educator, and insisting that Paxton should be focused on policies that benefit all Texans. “Texas is big enough for all of us,” he wrote.
Yes, Queen, slay.

Oh, and while Paxton is out here slandering Johnson as some kind of dangerous “groomer,” let me remind everyone that Paxton offered a convicted child predator a plea deal that would have allowed the rapist to spend only one (1) day in jail. Paxton would like you to know that that man actually spent 60 days in jail (because the judge insisted on it), so, there, you dumb liberals.

The bottom line is assholes like Paxton are trying to go back to the culture wars playbook because they know they can’t win their races on the economy or on having improved any Americans’ lives (aside from the billionaire class) during their time in office. Let’s vote out these ignorant bigots once and for all. Make sure you’re registered to vote, have a plan to vote, and, if at all possible, vote early and in person.
