Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

As we head into the first real week of Fall TV, TVLine breaks down Summer TV’s winners and losers. 

Well, this is huge: Paramount settled with the 12 states that were suing to block the merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. There are no details out yet, but Paramount just managed to remove a major hurdle just days ahead of accruing a sizable ticking fee. I guess it’s happening, but it will be interesting to see what concessions Paramount made — I suspect they committed to staying in California, and probably give oversight to CNN (and CBS News?) to some sort of outside entity. But we’ll see.

President Bloviator, reportedly following the urging of Natalie Harp, announced he was kicking CNN, MS Now, and Politico out of the White House because “fake news.” This is an explicit violation of the First Amendment; the government is literally revoking press credentials because they didn’t like their coverage. And accordingly, CNN, MS Now, and Politico are suing.

Meanwhile, importantly, the White House press pool is pushing back as a unit: ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, and Fox News have agreed to blackout coverage in response. There will be no video coverage for the day, and if the White House reaches out to another outlet to film the day’s events, the other networks have agreed to not use the footage. Congratulations to the networks on finding their spines.

The stock market is underwhelmed by Netflix’s foray into podcasts and games. 

Some of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert writers have launched their own podcast called “Jokes on News” and, yes, they are coming for the idiot President.

Though they’ve made a whole show about it that comes out this week, we’ll never know if Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are actually brothers because McConaughey refuses to take a DNA test.

Slow Horses is doing such a good job of coming out every year (which, you know, used to be unremarkable) that they might run out of books soon.

As we get closer to the return of American Horror Story, they are reminding you of what you’ll need to know going into season 13:
