Just how empty is David Ellison’s threat to pull Paramount out of California? (Pretty empty. Good luck convincing film and TV executives and creatives to move to Tennessee or Texas or Georgia.)

The WGA makes a good point about Ellison’s threat to leave California:

“By threatening to leave the state because it doesn’t want the government to enforce the law, Paramount further proves the danger of its outsized power over the industry and what that will mean for writers and the creative community,” the guild said in a statement to Deadline on Tuesday afternoon. “This type of behavior is precisely why the merger should be blocked.”

So, about President Dementia’s $10 billion lawsuit against the BBC for defamation and election interference. He’s suing the network over their documentary Trump: A Second Chance? which he claims spliced two different parts of his January 6th speech together to make it sound like he was encouraging rioters to attack the Capitol. The problem is that the documentary only aired in the U.K., and fewer than 300 American households ever saw it, thanks to illegal piracy via VPNs.

The lawsuit attributes the new information to a deposition of Richard Cooper, the BBC’s director of digital distribution. Cooper revealed that the Panorama film was successfully viewed 570,000 times on iPlayer, but only 0.05%, or 285, of these streams originated from IP addresses that could have been based in America. Some 34 streams appear to have originated from IP addresses that may have been based in Florida, where the case is being heard.

And of those 34 streams in Florida, the majority of them were actually traced back to an IP in Slough, England that was connected to the Florida-headquartered cruise ship company Carnival Corporation.

The ACLU would like to know what the FCC is up to.
