Happy Independence Day! Hope you enjoy irony!

Well, it’s our 249th birthday, and I personally don’t feel a day over 1,000. It’s been a long six months since President Huckster retook office, and honestly, I don’t feel like celebrating much. Today is the day that we are supposed to commemorate our independence from an oppressive authoritarian regime, and I think you can see where I’m going with that thought.

So instead of eating hot dogs and waving sparklers around, I am going to spend some time today thinking about what I can do in the next 487 days until the next election (if we’re allowed to have one) to make a difference: protest, educate myself on candidates and issues, donate, and volunteer. Today is just the Fourth of July — Tuesday, November 3, 2026, could be Independence Day, but we have to show up.
