So What’s Today’s Outrage?
So what’s today’s outrage? Right, so, on Saturday, as you know, we bombed three nuclear facilities in Iran. Now, this was a controversial decision with the MAGA community because President Bonespurs promised that he wouldn’t involve us in any wars in the Middle East. So it is SUPER IMPORTANT to him that he can claim these strikes pre-empted a war, and have brought peace — or at least a ceasefire — between Israel and Iran. To this end, President Incontinence has been screaming at the top of his lungs for days now that he OBLITERATED!!!!!! these nuclear sites.
Except. A couple of days ago, CNN and The New York Times reported on some early intelligence that suggested that the strikes did not destroy Iran’s nuclear program — that the centrifuges remain intact, and that the uranium stores might have been moved before the attacks. As you might imagine, this reporting has infuriated President Dear Leader, who yesterday had a complete tantrum online, demanding that the CNN reporter who filed the report, Natasha Bertrand, be fired.
“Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out ‘like a dog,’” Trump posted to Truth Social on Wednesday. “She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit ‘pay dirt’ — TOTAL OBLITERATION!”
The president continued: “She should not be allowed to work at Fake News CNN. It’s people like her who destroyed the reputation of a once great Network. Her slant was so obviously negative, besides, she doesn’t have what it takes to be an on camera correspondent, not even close. FIRE NATASHA!”
This was followed up by a tweet from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who admitted that the report was based on top-secret intelligence that had been leaked:
🚨FAKE NEWS CNN STRIKES AGAIN:
This alleged “assessment” is flat-out wrong and was classified as “top secret” but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community.
The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean…

Oh and she attacked CNN’s Bertrand from the podium for good measure:

(Note: no one has disparaged the fighter pilots who participated in this attack, though it’s a cute rhetorical gambit.)
So then this morning Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth held a press conference where he had a complete meltdown on his former Fox News colleague Jennifer Griffin calling her “the worst” and accusing her of misrepresenting President Spray Tan because she dared to ask him some questions about the attack:

Hegeseth also accused the media of hoping “the strikes weren’t effective,” and cheering against President Nobel Peace Prize.
If this all feels familiar, it’s because it’s the most important play from the 2016 administration’s playbook: Attack the free press at every turn. Part of the lashing out at the press seems to come from a sincere emotional place on the part of President Toddler. He clearly thought he would be universally praised and celebrated for launching these strikes, so when he was met with perfectly reasonable questions about its efficacy instead of just unquestioning acceptance that it was TOTAL OBLITERATION!!!, his feelings were hurt and he started demanding people be fired.
But of course, there’s a darker and much more nefarious part of this attack on the press, which is that this president can not tolerate dissent of any kind, and seeks to destroy any media outlet or voice that fact-checks or disagrees with him. If you get rid of all the truth tellers, then yours is the only truth.
During the first administration, the press pushed back, and pushed back hard on his attempts to control and silence them. But something changed when he won the second time around: the media owners, including Disney, and Amazon, and Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery, they started bending the knee, settling frivolous lawsuits with President Felon, and promising more “unbiased” coverage. And so when he starts calling out reporters by name to be fired because he’s displeased with their reporting, there’s no real reason to believe the cowards who have caved to him before will stand by their journalists and the First Amendment. This will be a true test for them, and for us all.
Here’s a bunch of TV news
60 Minutes won three News Emmys last night. Good.
The BBC is headed behind a paywall for American audiences. I understand, but it’s a disappointing development considering the state of our new industry here in the States.
This is interesting: DirecTV is going to stop offering its satellite service in certain parts of the country, offering streaming only.
They are making an X-Files LEGO set, and it’s amazing.
We have a psychic to thank for Detective Olivia Benson.
It’s pretty presumptuous to think there’s going to be another season of The Bachelorette. (On the other hand, there’s no way I’m being let off the hook that easily.)
Our Tiny Chef is really going through it, you guys.

I know what he said, but what I’m saying is don’t hold your breath for a Supernatural reboot. Maybe a spinoff sometime down the road, but not a reboot.
Can someone please go check on Sonja Morgan?
Wait, hold up, Abby Elliott’s cousin is one of the “Please Don’t Destroy” boys?
I feel obligated to tell you that the Dune guy is going to direct the next James Bond movie.
Yes, The Simpsons killed off Marge in the season finale. But also, not really because: flash forward.
Wait, you’re telling me that Bravo star Tom Sandoval received special treatment on America’s Got Talent which is broadcast on Bravo’s sister network NBC? This is my shocked face.
The author of The Witcher series both shaded and defended George R.R. Martin.
One of my husband’s favorite things about The Bear is its soundtrack. Here is a list of every song on the fourth season, but tread carefully: they give context for each song, which will include spoilers.
Oh, and for some spoiler-free Bear content: here’s the cast on their first red carpets.
Carrie Coon is probably younger than you think.
The Queen of Vogue is abdicating her throne.
Love is dead, but it’s hardly shocking as this breakup has been happening for the past couple of months.
