Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
Happy Festivus, everyone! Air those grievances, complete those feats of strength, and celebrate Festivus for the Rest of Us! If you want to watch the entire episode, it’s on Netflix: Season 9, episode 10, “The Strike.”
As you can imagine, I have plenty of grievances about this year, but since today is a normal posting day, I’m just going to bottle them up and deal with them at a later date, possibly via a box glass of wine, thankyouverymuch.
And here’s a Seinfeld-adjacent story that will have you saying, “Wait, what now?”
Y’all better be on the ball for Beyoncé’s concert halftime show: her performance and the games that serve as the excuse to host a Beyoncé concert expire after three hours, per the agreement Netflix made with the NFL.
The New York Times looks back at the “best” reality TV moments of the year, though I might categorize them as the “most important” reality TV moments of the year. (No, really, I’m serious.)
And TV Insider lists the year’s most shocking developments on-screen and behind the scenes in the soap world, and I have to agree.
If you haven’t watched The Diplomat on Netflix yet, do yourself a favor and binge it on one of your days off. It’s 12 episodes (so far) and great fun. But only click on that link above if you’ve watched AND FINISHED through season two.
Well, this is very heartbreaking.
The Bay will pay tribute to late star Jacklyn Zeman this Friday.
#MeToo
I usually do these stories on Tuesdays, but since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and no one wants to be grossed out on Christmas Eve, and we’ve got two pretty big stories, so we’re going to do this today and get it out of the way so we can enjoy the rest of our holiday.
First up: The House Ethics Committee voted last week to release the report on Matt Gaetz because no one likes Matt Gaetz in Washington D.C. The report, which was released this morning contained nothing terribly surprising: ALLEGEDLY he had sex with a 17-year-old girl; he paid over $90,000 to 12 women presumably for sex and/or drugs; he bought drugs from his Congressional office; and then tried to obstruct Congress from finding any of this out. The report concludes: “there was substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules, state and federal laws, and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, acceptance of impermissible gifts, the provision of special favors and privileges, and obstruction of Congress.”
Now let’s hope this prevents him from ever seeking federal office of any kind forever and ever, amen.
But the big story of the week is the Blake Lively lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, his production company Wayfarer Studios, and others associated with the studio for his inappropriate behavior on the set of It Ends With Us and then his enacting a coordinated P.R. campaign to ruin her reputation lest she make public her complaints about his behavior. IT’S A LOT.
The sexual harassment complaints include him kissing her when it wasn’t written in the script, pressuring her to do nude scenes, calling her and other women on the set “sexy” and “hot,” asking her personal questions about her sex life, telling her that he might have had non-consensual sex, showing people videos of his wife giving birth, pressuring her to lose weight, refusing to hire intimacy coordinators and ignoring her requests for simple things like a closed set during intimate scenes, and he and his partners walking in on her while she was breastfeeding. (They are pages 13-20 in the lawsuit linked at the start of this paragraph.)
But then! According to the lawsuit, Baldoni and his colleagues got worried that Blake Lively, a popular actress who is married to ONE OF THE BIGGEST MOVIE STARS IN THE WORLD, might start talking about the inappropriate behavior and ruin his reputation as a feminist man. So they hired the p.r. company that Johnny Depp used against Amber Heard to destroy Lively’s reputation.
If you were knee-deep in entertainment news when It Ends With Us came out, there were so many stories coming out from both sides suggesting some sort of huge rift between Baldoni and everyone else: her side was claiming Baldoni behaved inappropriately on the set, while stories ostensibly not coming from him claimed that Lively was a mean girl, rude to the press, was monetizing a domestic abuse storyline, and difficult to work with. The noise in the press around the release of this movie was deafening and confusing, and now it appears we know why.
An army of people has come out in support of Lively, including It Ends With Us‘ author Colleen Hoover, her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants family, America Ferrera, Amber Rose Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel, Amber Heard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Schumer, and Paul Feig, among others.
Baldoni’s lawyers have denied the claims in the lawsuit. Meanwhile, Baldoni has been dropped by his agency.
Sean Combs has been sued by two more women: one who claimed he raped her at a 1991 event that was notorious for ending in a deadly stampede, and a woman who says she won a trip to the White Party from a radio station in Oklahoma in 2006, where she was drugged and sexually assaulted. And the federal investigation is ongoing, and Combs may be brought up on additional charges.
Meanwhile, the lawyer behind most of the Combs’ lawsuits, Tony Buzbee, is being sued by a woman claiming he gave her an STI.
It looks like Bravo might have been investigating Vanderpump Rules’ James Kennedy a year before he was charged with domestic violence, for allegations that he had previously been violent with women. The entire cast was fired last month before any news of the investigation or what it found was revealed.
Megan Thee Stallion has filed a restraining order against Tory Lanez, alleging that he is harassing her from prison by employing a number of bloggers to spread defamatory statements about her. He’s calling the allegations “ridiculous” but he can take a seat (behind bars).
English Teacher‘s Brian Jordan Alvarez has denied the allegations leveled at him last week by former co-star Jon Ebeling.
Brian Cox is one more actor demanding that people forgive Kevin Spacey. ~rolls eyes~
