Here’s what last night’s winner of Top Chef plans to do with their winnings. Needless to say: SPOILER ALERT.
Jamie Campbell, the actor who plays Vecna on Stranger Things, is really building up expectations for the fifth and final season: “If you thought last season was nuts, this season is just out of control, wild, like, it’s bonkers. It really, really is. It’s bigger. It’s just completely insane. It’s completely insane. It’s just continually building.” You better deliver, guys.
Jon Hamm wants to work with Julio Torres, and that needs to happen already.
ALRIGHT, I’ve given you people a full week to finish Bridgerton season 3 before I started talking about it, SO I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT. (And since it’s had 28 million views in the past week, I’m thinking it’s safe to talk about now.)
Below are a ton of links most (all) of which will be spoilery. If you have not yet finished the series, just keep scrolling until you see the big red “RENEWALS.” And then come back later, the stories will still be here waiting for you:
THE mirror scene pic.twitter.com/WDgR3mL8Ml
— Netflix (@netflix) June 14, 2024
- There is obviously a very steamy six-minute-long sex scene in the first episode of the second half of episodes (which I awkwardly watched on my phone in an airport lounge). This is a great Vanity Fair piece that does a deep dive into the filming of the scene: how Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton supported each other while being naked for three days straight; how they broke some furniture in the process; and that yes, in the creators’ minds, that’s when baby Lord Featherington was conceived. I WARNED YOU ABOUT SPOILERS, DO NOT BE MAD AT ME.
- In the scene discussed above, Nicola Coughlan reveals her glorious tig ol’ bitties, and some asshole had the audacity to tell Coughlan she was “very brave” to do a nude scene. Which EXCUSE ME? But Coughlan had the perfect response: “You know, it is hard ’cause I think women with my body type, women with perfect breasts—we do not see ourselves onscreen enough. I am very proud as a member of the perfect-breasts community. I hope you enjoy seeing them.”
- Also, asshats, no, they did not photoshop Coughlan’s waist this season. She’s been squeezed into corsets for years now.
- I mean, I get it: Coughlan does not conform to our very unhealthy beauty standards, and it’s broken some people’s brains to have to accept that a woman of a PERFECTLY
NORMALLOVELY BODY TYPE is the romantic lead for a change, but grow up already and let’s stop dissecting this poor actress for having the gall to be beautiful and buxom. No link here, just a need to rant. - NO, WAIT, I DO HAVE A LINK.
- This is a piece about the historians the show employs, because while, yes, Bridgerton doesn’t strictly adhere to historical fact (to say the least), as Professor Vickery puts it: “When they do depart from the absolute letter of history, it’s done knowingly and for a reason. It’s intentional.”
- Here is your complete song list from the final four episodes. I’ve had “You Belong to Me” stuck in my head for days.
- It looks like season four will be about Benedict, if the books are any indication. Here Luke Thompson talks about Benedict’s journey so far and where it may be going.
- But if it is Benedict’s season, how will his (AGAIN, SPOILER) bisexuality play out in his relationship? Jess Brownwell, the showrunner, insists that Sophie could still be in the cards, so his fluidity will be in play.
- Speaking of queer relationships, the most controversial element of season three was the apparent gender swapping of Michael into Michaela in Francesa’s story. In the books, Francesa’s husband John dies suddenly, and she ends up falling in love with his cousin, Michael. However, in the final moments of season three, the show introduces us to John’s cousin, Michaela, and there is definitely a spark there, as fans have noticed.
@silentmath Francesca may have experienced love at first sight, & NOT w her hubby 👀 #bridgerton
- I, like many have not read the books, and found the backlash at this gender swap to smell a little like homophobia. However, I found this explanation of the backlash to be somewhat fair and insightful:

- Whatever happens in season four, we’re going to have to wait another two years to watch. BOO.
- Personally, my favorite story detail from the entirety of the season was Penelope’s big “She’s All That” reveal moment at the ball, when she enters looking drop-dead gorgeous, and it changes … nothing. It’s a wonderful f-you to an insidious rom-com trope that suggests all a woman needs to do to improve her life is to change how she looks so as to be more attractive to men. Pen does that … and she’s still an awkward outcast who struggles to socialize, especially with men. Looks ain’t everything; and superficial changes change only the superficial.
- Anyway, Bridgerton is such a hit, it has brought in £275 million (just under $350 million U.S.) to the U.K. economy.
