Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
Peacock is raising its prices just ahead of the Summer Olympics though I’m sure one has absolutely nothing to do with the other./s With ads will be bumped up to $7.99 a month and without ads will be $13.99 a month.
The White Lotus season three is all about death, according to Carrie Coon.
So have you watched Baby Reindeer yet? I binged the buzzy 7-episode series on my plane yesterday, and I’m here to tell you, it is a wild ride. Not to give too much away: Baby Reindeer is loosely based on creator and star, Richard Gadd’s experience being stalked while trying to break into the entertainment business as a struggling stand-up comedian. Except it is about so much more than that, and to reduce it to a stalker thriller like You or Single White Female is to strip it of its themes of empathy and trauma, its humanity. While I will note that this series should come with all the trigger warnings, I also fully expect it to break big in the Emmy nominations. If you have watched the dark, and (at times) darkly funny little series, I have some links for you. If you haven’t, I strongly advise you to go into the series as blind as possible, and allow the twists to take you.
- First and foremost, because it is based on a true story, viewers are obviously intrigued about who the real people are that the characters are based on. Gadd is pleading with fans to stop: “People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation. Please don’t speculate on who any of the real-life people could be. That’s not the point of our show,” Gadd wrote in an Instagram story.
- A woman has come forward claiming she is the person the stalker is based on and that Gadd is now “stalking” her: “He’s using Baby Reindeer to stalk me now. I’m the victim. He’s written a bloody show about me.”
- Jessica Gunning, who plays the stalker Martha, opened up about what it took to play such a nuanced character and the literal toll it took on her physically. Give her all of the Emmys.
- Meanwhile, Nava Mau is overwhelmed by the positive response:
- As for what Gadd has lined up next, it is definitely not a sequel to Baby Reindeer.
#BabyReindeer was excellent & deserves all the hype it’s getting. Not only do we seldomly see male victims depicted, but the exploration of how complex trauma is to your mind, perception, choices…
Richard Gadd had a story to tell & to be so brutally honest about it…WOW! pic.twitter.com/MN9fdgbyj9

Baby Reindeer
is a reminder that
abuse is not linear
it is not black and white
it is not a perfect story
and victims don’t have to be
pure and perfect to be believed.#BabyReindeer— Ụzọamaka. (@uzoamaka_a1) April 22, 2024
Words can’t explain the visceral reaction I had watching Baby Reindeer. I can never watch it again but it was a perfect piece of storytelling I’ll never be able to forget. 10/10. 5 stars. Richard Gadd has set himself apart with this one. I cannot praise it enough. #BabyReindeer pic.twitter.com/7fh7iceHmK

REMINDER: There is no sequel to Shōgun. Do NOT be waiting for season two of Shōgun.
Please put Lisa Rinna in the Melrose Place reboot and let Harry Hamlin enjoy a few moments of peace.

Four years ago, @JanNash100 @mattbosack and I started something very special. We joined with an incredible cast, amazing writers and crew… and gathered in Hawai'i to make a show. But ended up creating an ohana. I'm so grateful to you all.https://t.co/RwnvCNDt8d

I'm proud of the stories we were able to tell over these 3 seasons. To tell fun Navy crime mysteries but also dig into ideas about family, life, love, identity… To all the fans, especially those who saw themselves in these characters, mahalo nui loa. A hui hou. #NCISHawaii
