Hey, remember when I said that one show was canceled? Yeah, never mind.

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Hey — remember how I told you S.W.A.T.  had been canceled after CBS and Sony couldn’t come to terms despite it being a ratings winner for CBS? Yeah, scratch that. CBS blinked and renewed the series for a seventh — but final — season.

Fun FoolishWatcher Fact: S.W.A.T. is the reason we have the Hate Blog on this site. When S.W.A.T. was about to premiere, my husband suggested I recap it and I refused to because no, but then decided that I would leave it up to you guys which new network show I would “hate blog.” Y’all chose The Orville over S.W.A.T., so he still lost. We both did.

Here is a handy slideshow of 10 other shows that were canceled before the network reconsidered.

The Peabody Winners were announced, and while all of the categories are important, let’s focus on Entertainment:

  • Abbott Elementary
  • Andor
  • Atlanta
  • Bad Sisters
  • Better Call Saul
  • Los Espookys
  • Mo
  • Pachinko
  • Severance
  • We’re Here

Great list; no notes. (Except to say I’m thrilled to see Los Espookys and Mo on this list; they are two underappreciated gems of shows.)

Mayim Bialik gives the Call Me Kat characters the endings they deserved after being canceled:

Piers Morgan is wrong again.

You guys, we might not be ready:

This Succession/Arrested Development mash-up with an AI-generated Ron Howard narrator is better than the last two seasons of Arrested Development, and I say that as one of the few people who kinda enjoyed those seasons:

Brian Cox will compete in Lead Actor in a Drama Series in the Emmys.

At the last second, Peacock decided to submit Mrs. Davis in the Limited/Anthology Series instead of Drama for the Emmys, which is an interesting insight for Peacock’s future plans for the series.

The Kelly Clarkson Show is moving to New York City.

Whoopi Goldberg did not think it was cute that Sunny Hostin said she was a big farter.

Shonda Rhimes is threatening to never let Grey’s Anatomy die.

WHERE IS LOUIE?

More Tucker texts have leaked. Meanwhile, advertisers are returning to his old time slot now that his particular brand of assholery is gone.

Writers’ Strike Updates:

Good Trouble and Daredevil: Born Again are the most recent shows to halt production.

Nicole Kidman’s AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony has been postponed.

President Biden and Snoop Dogg are Team Writers.

George R.R. Martin has written an impassioned blog entry on why “mini-rooms” are so detrimental to TV writers, and prevent young writers from learning the business. Ending the practice of mini-rooms is one of the WGA’s demands.

“Mini-rooms are abominations, and the refusal of the AMPTP to pay writers to stay with their shows through production — as part of the JOB, for which they need to be paid, not as a tourist — is not only wrong, it is incredibly short sighted. If the Story Editors of 2023 are not allowed to get any production experience, where do the studios think the Showrunners of 2033 are going to come from?

If nothing else, the WGA needs to win that on that issue. No matter how long it may take.”

Accused’s showrunner Howard Gordon makes the same point:

“Structurally, writers — and mezzanine writers, too — are not learning the whole craft,” Gordon said. Instead of spending time on the cutting room floor and learning from actors and directors what it really takes to make an episode of television, writers now have to pass on a script “because they’ve got to jump to another show.”

“It takes hours. It takes hours and days and years to get good at this. For me, anyway, it’s been a process,” Gordon said. “I worry that structurally the nomadic aspect of before orders and the span of things are going to have downstream problems in the quality.”

Neil Gaiman assures fans that no part of The Sandman season two will be written by scabs. The entire season is reportedly written, but no rewrites or new drafts will be written by non-union writers.

Judd Apatow is pretty sure the studios don’t want the strike to end quickly.

Some of the studios are suspending some first-look and overall deals they have with showrunners and writers. The Wire‘s David Simon reports from the frontline:

#MeToo

I haven’t talked much about the E. Jean Carroll case against Former President Grab ‘Em By the Pussy, but it’s in the jury’s hands now. But it is worth noting that the only reason this case happened is that New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Adult Survivors Act thanks in large part to the #MeToo movement, which itself gained momentum in large part because of the infamous Access Hollywood tapes.

Former President Perjury did not testify in the case, but there are deposition tapes. Lordy, there are tapes.

I hope the jury pours him out. The verdict was delivered while I was writing this, just some hours after the case was given to the jury. While they did not find that Former President Liar raped E. Jean Carrol, they did agree that he sexually abused and defamed her. They awarded her a total of $5 million. GOOD. SUCK IT, YOU SEXUALLY VIOLENT MONSTER.

Jonathan Majors’ lawyer is out here using the term “witch hunt.”

Jameela Jamil revealed on a podcast hosted by Penn Badgley, Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Ansari, that she was supposed to audition for You, but chose not to because she didn’t want to do sex scenes. (Which is highly ironic, considering Badgley’s position on no longer doing sex scenes himself.)

Sherri Shepherd helped Sunny Hostin, Loni Love, and Sheryl Underwood get what they deserved. (In a good way.)

Hadley Gamble, the CNBC anchor whose harassment claims against former NBCU CEO Jeff Shell got him fired, is leaving the network.

Tituss Burgess opened up about being sexually abused as a child.

Amber Heard has quit Hollywood and who can blame her?

Jackson Mahomes, TikTok star and younger brother of Patrick Mahomes, was arrested for multiple charges of aggravated sexual battery.

We’re Here star Shangela has been accused of sexual assault by a crew member of the series.

Phil Drechsler, a former Los Angeles television news producer, has been charged with distributing child pornography.

Texas House Rep. Bryan Slaton, an ultra-conservative pro-forced-birth Republican, was forced to resign after it was revealed that he got a 19-year-old staffer intoxicated and engaged in nonconsensual sex with her. He then attempted to intimidate her and her friends into staying silent about the encounter.

And right-wing commentator Steven Crowder has been revealed to be an emotionally abusive husband who sexually harasses his co-workers. WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY SEEN THAT COMING?
