Before we begin, let me show you this true tweet exchange that happened yesterday:

I only mention this amazing brain fart because as you know very well, Elon Musk, supergenius, just bought Twitter for $44 billion in the name of “free speech.” There are tons of takes out there ranging everywhere from “THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!” to “nothing is going to fundamentally change.” So, who knows.

There is a threat that Former President Twitter Fingers could be restored to the platform (he claims he’s not coming back) (he’s lying), and everyone from white nationalists to vaccine deniers are celebrating the development, certain that they will have run of the place. The truth of the matter is murkier: if Twitter is overrun with people “exercising their free speech” and becomes another unusable cesspit like Gab or Parler or Truth Social, no one will want to use it, and it might get itself kicked out of the Apple and Android stores for spreading dangerous misinformation. So, again, who knows.

What I do know is that it is really fucking ironic that Ron DeSantis, who has literally and directly attacked Disney’s free speech rights, thinks that Musk buying Twitter is a big deal for “free speech.”

Meanwhile, Tucker Carlson is out here lying about Twitter. He was banned from the platform for 12 hours after he identified Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine a man (she’s a trans woman), but his account was restored when he took the tweet down. However, he didn’t tweet from it for a month, and then last night he tweeted “We’re back,” as if Musk himself flipped the switch, allowing Carlson back on, where he was already allowed to post. So stupid.

Disney, which has discovered its spine in the wake of this fight with Florida, has refused to remove an LGBTQ reference in Doctor Strange 2 to meet Saudi Arabia’s demands. A character refers to her “two moms,” and Saudi Arabia is asking for a “simple edit” to remove it, but Disney, bless them, is refusing to do so. I’m curious how all the GOPers who accuse corporations of kowtowing to China on similar issues feel about this 
 I’m just going to sit here and hold my breath waiting for them to respond.

Oh wow, Warner Bros. Discovery just killed all scripted development at TBS and TNT. To be honest, there weren’t many scripted series left on either network: on TNT there is only Animal Kingdom (which ends this season) and Snowpiercer; on TBS there is Chad; Miracle Workers; American Dad, and The Last OG. No word on how this will impact these shows going forward (but it’s not looking great). The culling begins.

Viola Davis doesn’t have time for critics: “The thing about critics is they serve absolutely no purpose.” OUCH.

The Crown is casting a young Kate Middleton. Now, they’ve claimed they aren’t going to cover the Harry and Meghan debacle, but we’ll see.

The Royal Family tries to block the filming of The Crown whenever and wherever they can, and can you blame them?

GOD DAMMIT, BILL MURRAY, NOT YOU. ~sigh~ Production on Aziz Ansari’s debut film, Being Mortal, had to be paused when a complaint was lodged against Murray for his behavior. It’s unknown what the nature of the complaint is at this time. However, it’s not the first time that Murray has been accused of dickish behavior.

David Hollander, the showrunner of Ray Donovan, How We Roll, and the upcoming American Gigolo, has been fired by Showtime and Paramount following an investigation into inappropriate behavior. “The exact nature of the misconduct is not clear, but sources told Deadline that it involved comments made by Hollander that were not of sexual-harassment nature.”

Oscar De La Hoya has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman.

Von Miller is being sued by a woman who claims that he sent a sexually explicit photo of her to two other celebrities without her permission.

Trey Songz has been accused of groping a woman.

Former MTV Making The Band star Chopper has been arrested for sex trafficking.

Busy Philipps opens up about being told she had to look “tartier” and wear a push-up bra to an audition to get a job, and that if she wanted a film career, she had to pose for Maxim. And Ella Purnell recalls being pushed to be “sexier” when she was 15 and feeling powerless to say no.

West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler, who was just minding her business, was asked repeatedly by journalists what she thought about the allegations against Ansel Elgort that he had raped a 17-year-old girl back in 2014. Her point is, WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO ANSWER FOR SOMETHING A CO-STAR MIGHT HAVE DONE EIGHT YEARS AGO? Fair.

  2. Steve Martin trended on Twitter a few days after Bill Murray. When I tell you I RAN to the comments to make sure he was still alive (he is) and/or not outted as another garbage person (he’s not. As far as we know.)
