Lena Dunham is threatening a reboot of Girls.
Hey, screenwriters: listen to Allison Tolman:
Jokes about weight don’t have to just be jokes about a characters body. They can also include making mention of:
– the numbers on a scale
– what someone eats
– what size their clothing is
– exercise and movement— Allison Tolman (@Allison_Tolman) January 18, 2022
I’m not saying you shouldn’t use adjectives. But please don’t say “Linda- the main character’s cousin, thin and witty” unless there’s an actual reason Linda needs to be thin. And please don’t say “Fat Lady In Theater” when you mean “Annoying Lady In Theater”.
— Allison Tolman (@Allison_Tolman) January 18, 2022
The audience only knows the values you assign to different body types if you have characters saying lines about them. But the rest of your script? That’s your crew, writers room, everyone in the office, executives, creative partners- all the people helping you make your show.

PBS children’s series Arthur is ending this year (see in Dates below) after 25 seasons, making it the longest-running children’s animated series. And in an interesting choice, the final four episodes will be a flash-forward to see Arthur and his friends as adults.
This is a great interview with Brian Cox, in which he discusses other actors, including Johnny Depp, Michael Caine, and Ed Norton, how he really feels about Jeremy Strong, and his thoughts on the Former President Fucking Asshole, as he so succinctly puts it, and what his presidency says about this country. (SPOILER ALERT: Nothing good.) The man is honest and doesn’t give a shit what you think of him.
We finally have a title for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series: The Rings of Power.
The connection between How I Met Your Mother and How I Met Your Father is … eh. I will say it saves How I Met Your Father from having to work in cameos from the original show.
Get better soon, Louie Anderson!

Last Week:
This Week:
Note: the numbers for this week will be impacted by the holiday as many states did not report data. Still, we might be seeing the number of Omicron cases finally peaking in areas that were first hit, which will be welcome news. Less welcome news, the hospitalizations and deaths will continue to rise for the foreseeable future.
It took longer than it should have, but the Biden Administration is finally sending out tests and making masks available to whoever wants them. The website covidtests.gov is live now, and having used it myself to order tests for my house, my sister, and my parents, I can report it is bug-free and very quick to use. As for the masks, they will be made available for free at pharmacies and community health centers. Go get some tests — you’ll want to have them on hand if you start having symptoms or are exposed — and please wear a mask out there. Don’t be an asshole like Justice Neil Gorsuch.
Nina Totenberg reports that (1) the Chief Justice asked his colleagues to mask up out of respect for Sotomayor’s health concerns, (2) only Gorsuch refused, and (3) his refusal forced Sotomayor to participate in arguments and conference remotely. https://t.co/DmsQV8j7Wz pic.twitter.com/7JG5hMN0q7

The whole drama around Novak Djokovic and the Australian Open was finally resolved when Australia revoked his visa for refusing to get vaccinated one day before the Open was set to begin. And now the French and Spanish Opens are also threatening to ban him if he doesn’t vaccinate. Looks like someone fucked around and found out.
“And it’s not something that you enjoy, always, you know, especially if you lose a match or something like this.
“But it is part of our sport, it is part of what we do, the media is important without a doubt.” 2/— Rex Chapman🏇🏼 (@RexChapman) January 13, 2022
And no, Kelly Slater, you can’t surf in Australia unless you get vaccinated.
Production on the George Clooney and Julia Roberts’ movie Ticket To Paradise has been postponed because of the rise of cases in Australia.
Fox Business anchor Liz Claman has COVID.
A Florida health official was put on administrative leave after he sent out an email encouraging the staff to get vaccinated because the GOP has lost its damn mind.
China will not be selling tickets to the Beijing Olympics to the general public thanks to the virus.
Hong Kong is going to euthanize thousands of small animals after they suspect a hamster gave a pet shop employee COVID. Or … hear me out … maybe Omicron is extremely contagious, and the employee got it from another human? Meanwhile, don’t take your hamsters outside and do not kiss them, just to be on the safe side.
Dan Bongino’s YouTube channel was suspended after he said masks were useless. Unfortunately, the suspension is only for one week.
PLEASE DO NOT GIVE PRISONERS HORSE PASTE.
