Hi, it’s Monday again. The states that flung themselves open early against the advice of scientists have continued to surge in COVID cases, and in what I’m sure is a complete coincidence, those numbers broke records this weekend — two weeks exactly from July 4. In fact, Florida hit 15,000 positive cases in ONE DAY — the highest number for any state since this shit began. It accounted for 8% of worldwide cases, you guys.
So how are we responding?
OH COOL, WE’RE DISCREDTING DR. FAUCI NOW. WELL, SURE. OBVIOUSLY. OF COURSE. WHY THE FUCK NOT, RIGHT? AND WE’RE GOING TO START TAKING MEDICAL ADVICE FROM THE HOST OF LOVE CONNECTION?
You guys. Maybe we’re too stupid to survive. Have we considered that? That we should just pack it in if thousands of us are trusting Chuck Fucking Woolery over Dr. Fauci?
Because we are still talking about reopening our schools in A MONTH.
The elementary school both of my children attended lost a staff member to this horrid virus a couple of weeks ago and it has understandably traumatized our principal who wonders how he can possibly be expected to reopen and put the rest of his staff, teachers, and students and parents in danger.
This young man, Marcel McClinton, has a few questions that I challenge any state that is looking to open their schools in a month to answer:
• If a teacher tests positive for COVID-19 are they required to quarantine for 2-3 weeks? Is their sick leave covered, paid?
• If that teacher has 5 classes a day with 30 students each, do all 150 of those students need to then stay home and quarantine for 14 days? @teainfo
— Marcel (@MarcelMcClinton) July 13, 2020
• What if someone who lives in the same house as a teacher tests positive? Does that teacher now need to take 14 days off of work to quarantine? Is that paid? @teainfo
— Marcel (@MarcelMcClinton) July 13, 2020
• Substitutes teach in multiple schools. What if they are diagnosed with COVID-19? Do all the kids in each school now have to quarantine and get tested? Who is going to pay for that? @teainfo
— Marcel (@MarcelMcClinton) July 13, 2020
• What is this stress going to do to our teachers? How does it affect their well-being? How does it affect their ability to teach? How does it affect the quality of education they are able to provide? What are the long-term effects of consistently being stressed? @teainfo
— Marcel (@MarcelMcClinton) July 13, 2020
30% of the teachers in the US are over 50. About 16% of the total deaths in the US are people between the ages of 45-65. We are choosing to put our teachers in danger.

Well?
Disney World reopened this weekend in Orlando, and really, what better time than on the weekend when Florida broke the highest single-day increase of ANY STATE in the course of this pandemic. Hey, remember back in May when Governor DeSantis wanted an apology from people who told him he was a fucking idiot for opening his state up too soon?
Disney World is opening in the middle of Covid-19. I reedited their "Welcome Home" video to make it more accurate.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that Disneyland Hong Kong closed again. Go ahead and ask me how many positive cases they had in Hong Kong yesterday. NOPE, NOT 15,000, SILLY. They had 37. But sure, let’s fling Disney World wide open.
The Palm Springs Film Festival has pushed back their 2021 dates.
Here are a bunch of MLB and NBA players who have tested positive, so yeah, good luck with the restart of those seasons.
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has been hospitalized with COVID.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, another Bollywood star, and her8-year-old daughter have both tested positive.
General Hospital had planned to try to return to production sometime this week. That ain’t going to happen. It’s being pushed to the 20th now. We’ll see. Meanwhile, The Young and the Restless is still shooting for a return tomorrow. WE’LL SEE. Meanwhile, The Bold and the Beautiful plans to begin airing their new episodes on the 20th, so keep your eyes peeled for mannequins.
Black Lives Matter
CNN is planning on devoting more coverage to race and policing issues and have announced a new expanded “race team.”
The Washington Redskins are officially getting rid of their shitty racist name as of today. As of this writing, a new name has not been announced, but I’m sure by the time I hit publish, that will probably have changed.
Lady A is speaking out about Lady Antebellum trying to steal her damn name. GET ANOTHER NAME, GUYS.
USC is removing an exhibit on John Wayne because of his gross racist comments back in 1971 where he declares he’s a white supremacist.
YouTuber Jeffree Star has been dropped by makeup retailer Morphe for being racist trash and manipulating other creators.

In the other shocking news of the weekend: Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith taped an episode of her Facebook Watch show, Red Table Talk, where they opened up about her extra-marital relationship with musician August Alsina. It broke records for the streaming platform. It was also brutal to watch. 👀
"we ride together, we die together, bad marriage for life."

So, it’s been over two weeks since Hamilton came crashing into our living rooms. Here’s a bunch of Hamilton stuff I’ve collected since:
Hamilton was a HUGE hit for Disney+.
Here’s an argument for why it’s the most important movie right now (HINT: Coronavirus is involved). And here’s an argument why it’s a time capsule from happier days.
Not all the reviews have been 100% positive, and many people had complaints that the show glosses over the fact that many of the founding fathers were slave owners. Miranda heard the criticisms and received them gracfeully, pointing out that it’s a two-and-a-half-hour show and he could only cram so much in (I read somewhere that, in fact, the show averages 140 words per MINUTE, and that if it had as many words per minute as most shows, it would run about 6 hours, so he really did his very best to get as much in there as he could).
Appreciate you so much, @brokeymcpoverty. All the criticisms are valid. The sheer tonnage of complexities & failings of these people I couldn’t get. Or wrestled with but cut. I took 6 years and fit as much as I could in a 2.5 hour musical. Did my best. It’s all fair game. https://t.co/mjhU8sXS1U

However, the dummies over at Fox News read this as the “Left” trying to “cancel” the show. (It’s not. People can criticize something without trying to wipe it from existence.)
Hamilton will not be eligible for the Oscars for very weirdly specific reasons.
Let’s talk about King George’s spittle for a second.
Finally, the Muppets perform the first act of Hamilton. Just listen to the first minute if you don’t have time to listen to the whole thing, it’s amazing if only for Beaker. (And then fast forward to 19:00 for the King George performance.)
OOH … Unsolved Mysteries just released a bunch of files that didn’t make it onto the show: ENJOY.
In the crossover event I had no idea I needed, the Ghost Adventures ding-dongs investigated the Tiger King zoo, and FOUND BONES! IN THE ALLIGATOR PIT! And SHOOTING HAD TO STOP! But then they were animal bones in the most boring reveal of all time because the Ghost Adventure idiots are professionals at freaking themselves out.
Anyway, here are Trixie Mattel and Katya recapping Tiger King, which is far more satisfying.
Wait, what?

I know journalists sometimes have problems with math, and your recent vacation probably messed up your day counts. But the 4th of July was only 9 days ago, not two weeks.
Jim, time doesn’t mean anything anymore, come on.

Totally agree. But snark trumps reality.
So it appears KPRC is showing something called “Something Good” that looks like NBC’s version of Krasinski’s Some Good News instead of the 30 Rock special, which will run in Houston at 1am……what??!!
NERD RAGE!!
Yep. It just broke that a bunch of local NBC stations won’t be broadcasting the ’30 Rock’ special because they think it’s just one big ad for Peacock and they feel Peacock is about to be their big competitor since it’ll stream NBC episodes the day after they air. That said, you should be able to watch it on NBC.com, or possibly VOD, depending on your provider.
