Mr. Mercedes: This new series is based on a Stephen King novel about a homicide detective who is haunted by his last case, a killer who drives his Mercedes into crowds of people. Series premiere. Audience

The Story of Diana: In markets that aren’t Houston, ABC will air this two-part look into Princess Diana as we near the 20th anniversary of her death. In markets that are Houston, you get a Texans pre-season game.  8 p.m., ABC

The Carmichael Show: Jerrod and Maxine have a disagreement about money in the series finale. 9:30 p.m., NBC
