In honor of International Women’s Day, Sophie Turner wrote about becoming a woman’s activist after Game of Thrones received such a backlash for the depiction of Sansa’s rape.
I found it vulgar that talking heads online had decided that Game of Thrones – known for its unflinching depictions of incest, slavery (sexual and otherwise) and a brother’s reproductive coercion of his sister – ought not depict rape. It would be a vulgar failure on our part as storytellers, to be happily silent on a matter that affects our sisters, mothers, daughters, nieces, cousins every day, all over the world. I’m proud to be part of a show that won’t be content to give unproblematic accounts of being a woman in a patriarchal society; if it falls to a fantasy show to portray the reality of domestic and sexual violence, so be it.
FUCK YEAH, SOPHIE TURNER.
And Emilia Clarke wrote about feminism and kindness being “the new sexy.” Khalessi knows from sexy.
Isaac Hempstead Wright, Bran from Game of Thrones, (and who looks alarmingly like my teenage son), gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly in which he said nothing about feminism but did reveal these two interesting things:
I think Bran has transcended “growing.” Growing up or being an adult is not on his to-do list anymore. It’s doing what he needs to do. He’s on another plane. It’s not like he has to grow up and prove himself a man. He just knows he has to do his stuff.

Can you give me one word to tease season 7? And don’t say “epic.”
No, that’s our go-to word! Then… [Pauses] probably “connections.”
Game of Thrones officially released its Season 7 poster, but yawn, you already knew that if you read Tuesday’s post.
Malta’s Azure Window, which was featured in Game of Thrones‘ first season, has collapsed into the sea. 🙁
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, GUYS. Last night’s season finale (don’t click that link if you haven’t watched yet) leaves The Gang’s unity in jeopardy. This coupled with news that Glenn Howerton is joining the Seth Meyers-produced high school comedy pilot for NBC (see below), there’s a chance Dennis won’t be back in season 13. The series is renewed for two more seasons, so it’s not in danger of being cancelled, but will the dynamic be the same? All of this just when the series had one of its best seasons ever …
Going back to feminism, Hulu released this new trailer for A Handmaid’s Tale on International Women’s Day, appropriately enough. (They really should have released the series yesterday, though, had they thought about it.)
And in anti-feminist news
Dear Bill O’Reilly: a sincere fuck you for calling Andrea Mitchell “unruly” for trying to do her damn job. On International Women’s Day, no less, you asshole.
Other reporters had her back, though. Just a reminder, this is part two of a war between Fox News and MSNBC just this week.
January Jones could end up dating Ben Higgins or Nick This Asshole Viall, with a little help from Samuel Jackson and James Corden. No, girl, don’t do it.
Late night recognizes Day Without a Woman
