Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News
Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions – also known as the fake news – have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up.
The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they… https://t.co/7bBgnsbalw

“I am a big supporter of the First Amendment,” [Senator Ron] Johnson said on Fox News’s “The Sunday Briefing.” “I do not like the heavy-handed government, no matter who is wielding it. … I would rather the federal government stay out of the private sector as much as possible.”
“The federal government’s role is to protect our freedoms — protect our constitutional rights,” the Wisconsin Republican added.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani reportedly backed out of a CBS News interview because of a Bari Weiss tweet. Heck of a job, Bari.
For no reason, let’s check in on how CBS Evening News is doing. Heck of a job, Bari.
So, in my coverage of this weekend’s SNL, I noted that their MAHA Hospital sketch was remarkably similar to a McSweeney’s post that had been published last week. Turns out both came out months after this Daily Show sketch:
Wait, you’re telling me the head of The Kennedy Center is leaving? Huh! Why?
Literally the definition of “all hat no cattle.”
GODDAMMIT, HULU. Apparently, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is not happening after all. How dare you get all our hopes up, what with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chloé Zhao, and no Joss Whedon, only to dash them this way. I hope your pillows are always hot, your car battery is always dead, you never remember if you locked your front door when you leave the house, and the T button on your computer is forever stuck.

“Chloé Zhao came to me and not just her passion, because I’ve seen people with passion before, but she knew how to go into the world. She knew what the world was, and she knew the way,” Gellar said. “And that was the first time I said, ‘Maybe, could I possibly do this? And this went on for three years now … me and Chloé going back and forth, saying I could do it, saying I can’t, and really spending the time to develop what it is and why it is.”
Buffy may be dead, but irony lives.
Some Oscars business:
- Here are all your winners. One Battle After Another and Sinners had, expectedly, a good night.
- Conan O’Brien’s opener was a delightful tribute to the nominees:
- Michael B. Jordan’s win for Best Actor was a highlight for me. He deserved the win; gave a beautiful speech; had a sweet moment with his Friday Night Lights co-star and fellow nominee, Jesse Plemons; celebrated with his All My Children co-stars; and was celebrated by his All My Children co-stars; and then partied at In-N-Out. We love him, full stop.

- And I loved Amy Madigan’s win for Weapons, in large part because horror rarely is acknowledged by the Oscars (YOU WERE ROBBED, TONI COLLETTE), but in small part because of this:

- The In Memoriam was deeply moving for a terrible year full of unimaginable losses.
- That said, there were some notable snubs, including: Eric Dane, James Van Der Beek, Robert Carradine, and Malcolm Jamal-Warner.
- The performance of Sinner’s “I Lied to You” was spectacular:
- There was a tie! Only the seventh time in 98 Oscars!
- OK, but what about the snacks?
- Matt Berry was Matt Berrying.

- Conan sent some much-needed love to Martin Short.
- And in a post-Oscars scene, Conan is named “Host for Life” — but there’s a catch.
Vince Gilligan originally imagined a mostly-naked Pluribus before considering the … logistics.
Production on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives had to be paused after our new Bachelorette got into some sort of blowup with her baby daddy. Has this news just spoiled the outcome of this season of The Bachelorette? MAYBE.

Turns out, Stephen King and I have very similar TV tastes.
Jake Johnson throwing Lamore Morris under the bus is pretty funny.
BET+ is about to be reabsorbed into Paramount+ and will no longer be a standalone app.
Get well soon, Pork Chop! (That out of the way, that headline …)
Renewals
- Free Bert has been renewed for a second season on Netflix.
In Development
- An animated Firefly series is in the works — so here I am, admitting I was wrong when this project was teased last week and I claimed it was just going to be a dumb ad campaign or something. I WAS WRONG. I ADMIT IT.
- A live-action adaptation of the video game Hitman is not moving forward at Hulu after being announced back in 2017.
Casting News
- Jack Black will host Saturday Night Live on April 4, with musical guest Jack White. Brilliantly done, SNL.
- David Morse has joined the cast of Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+.
- Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi have joined the cast of Assassin’s Creed on Netflix.
- Ed Begley Jr., Anne Archer, Mamie Gummer, and Ana Ortiz will guest star on Brilliant Minds on NBC.
- Michael Sheen will replace Richard Osman as the host of House of Games on BBC.
Mark Your Calendar
- Daredevil: Born Again returns on Disney+ on March 26.
- Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America will premiere on HBO on June 26.
- Brilliant Minds will return on NBC on May 27.
