Finding things to be thankful for, dammit.

Happy Thanksgiving, Internet Pals!

Look, 2025 has not been a great year. I could list all the things we’ve endured in the past 11 months, but you don’t need reminding, no one wants reminding. Instead, let’s talk about the things to be thankful for.

As for me, I’m thankful, as always, for my big, loud family; my circle of brilliant, funny friends; and all the people in my life that make it better. I am thankful for the roof over my head, the food I eat, and the simple fact that I don’t have to worry about either of those things when I know so many do.

I am for everyone who is doing their part to make everything a little less awful. I am thankful for the protestors in Portland and Chicago, and the millions of patriots who marched in the No Kings protests. I’m thankful for the law firms, the universities, and all the other organizations and companies that did not bend the knee to this administration despite the pressure to do so. I am thankful for the scientists and medical professionals who continue to strive to keep us healthy in the face of unprecedented opposition. I am thankful for the lawyers fighting this administration’s worst impulses and sick revenge tour and for the judges who have struck down their blatantly illegal actions. I am thankful for the late-night comics who are not afraid to speak truth to power and for everyone who defends them. I am thankful for the journalists who report the truth. I am thankful for the Democrats who are willing to fight fire with fire (sit down, Schumer and Jeffries, I’m not talking about you), for the bipartisan effort to expose the Epstein files and predators within despite political pushback, and for the patriotic representatives who remind us of our Constitutional rights and obligations.

And, honestly, I am deeply thankful for this administration’s proven incompetence.

As for television, I am thankful for a remarkably rich year. I am thankful for the seriousness of The Pitt and the complete lack of seriousness of Paradise, The Hunting Wives, and the genuinely terrible All’s Fair. I am thankful for Abbott Elementary and Ghosts, Death by Lightning, The White Lotus, Mo, Stumble, The Paper, Dying for Sex, I Love LA, Severance, You, All Her Fault, The Gilded Age, The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, Gen V, The Beast in Me, Slow Horses, The Lowdown, The Four Seasons, Poker Face, The Diplomat, The Righteous Gemstones, Murderbot, Shrinking, and for the mindlessness of Doctor Odyssey, Sirens and The Better Sister. I am thankful for Late Night with Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I am grateful for Andor nailing the ending and for And Just Like That … for … not. I am thankful for the endurance of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and grateful for the return of South Park, King of the Hill, Black Mirror, and Stranger Things. And I am most thankful for The SNL 50th Anniversary Special and Homecoming Concert, Alien: Earth, Pluribus, and The Rehearsal. THAT IS SO MUCH, AND I AM SURE I AM FORGETTING MUCH MORE.

And, as always, I am thankful for you, dear reader. So many things demand your attention, and I am deeply appreciative that you choose to spend your precious time with me here. Thank you for stopping by as often as you do. I hope you and yours have a lovely Thanksgiving and holiday season, and that your table is full of pie.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Therese. Thanks for all you do, especially in keeping me up to date on what all those ridiculous reality people are doing. May we all have a lot more to be thankful for in the coming months and years.

  2. I am thankful I can read you rather than having to watch the various bachelor shows.
    Happy thanksgiving everyone!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving, Therese! Thank you for your column. It’s always worth the time to read it, and I have quoted / referenced / linked it from time to time. (Oh, you forgot Landman.)
