A shocking overhaul is currently underway at MSNBC

Your moment of zen:

@wildcorwin

The black footed albatross is a most extraordinary bird with a massive wingspan of 7 1/2 feet. They nest on remote islands off of the Hawaiian archipelago. They are feathered nomads, roaming distant oceans, ocean-bound for the first five years of life, but then they settle down with a single monogamous partner for the rest of their lives, with a lifespan of nearly 5 decades! They travel thousands of miles to forge for food, but when an albatross returns home, it is greeted by its partner with this incredible dance of courtship! this exquisite footage was wonderfully de captured by Dan Rapp with United States Fish and Wildlife Service. Thank you http://www.fws.gov for protecting our shared American wild Heritage! #birds #nature #Love #Hawaii #wildlife #conservation #adventure #Odyssey

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Big shakeups happening at MSNBC: This weekend it was announced that Joy Reid’s show, The ReidOut was ending this week (tonight will be the final episode) and The Weekend hosts Alicia Menendez, Michael Steele, and Symone Sanders-Townsend will have a new show in that hour, Tuesdays-Friday, with a two-hour version on Mondays. Reid will be leaving the network.

Joy Reid will always be an important voice speaking truth to power.For such a time as this.

Hakeem Jeffries (@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social) 2025-02-24T14:25:56.316Z

The first text I got from a "famous" person after I went public about January 6th, was @joyannreid.bsky.social Joy didn't want an interview, a statement or even a soundbyte…Joy simply said, Harry i want to be your friend and I'm here for you. She's as real as they come and I'm so thankful for her

Harry Dunn (@libradunn1.bsky.social) 2025-02-24T02:27:11.659Z

Grateful for Joy Reid & her willingness to always provide a forum for voices and candidates often ignored by mainstream media. Can you name another show or host who brought together 5 Black candidates running for the US Senate?! Thank you Joy! @joyannreid.bsky.social

Jaime Harrison (@jaimeharrison.bsky.social) 2025-02-23T20:49:19.742Z

MSNBC shake-up: the issue is, they didn't have a Joy Reid problem. They have a Joe Scarborough problem. Until he is fired, MSNBC will not recover. Shuffling tepid shows in and out does nothing. http://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/23/b…

Keith Olbermann (@olbermann.bsky.social) 2025-02-23T11:57:31.058Z

Also, Alex Wagner Tonight, which had filled Rachel Maddow’s spot until Maddow’s recent return, has also been canceled. Jen Psaki will take that spot Tuesdays-Fridays. Wagner will remain with the network as a correspondent.

And just now, The New York Post is reporting that MSNBC is also canceling The Saturday/Sunday Show With Jonathan Capehart; The Katie Phang Show; and Ayman. It’s difficult to not notice that Joy Reid, Alex Wagner, Jonathan Capehart, Katie Phang, and Ayman Mohyeldin are all people of color.

What the fuck, MSNBC?

Dear MSNBC, 'I'm glad you kept this show on, said no one ever."

MSNBC is spinning off of Comcast later this year, which will change their relationship with NBC News. As a result, they reportedly are trying to build up their own news division, and might have to replace the daytime anchors with new faces, possibly from current contributors or reporters from print outlets. There is a lot of anger at the firings mentioned above while Katie Tur and other white daytime anchors keep their jobs. But from what I’m reading here, it might be more complicated than that, that the daytime anchors might be employees of NBC News who will not be making the move with MSNBC when it spins off. Stay tuned.

And on top of all THAT, Lester Holt has announced he is stepping down as anchor of NBC Nightly News this summer after hosting the show for a decade. BIG MOVES AT NBC.

Just be careful what you wish for, NBC. Sometimes big changes are a mistake: Norah O’Donnell apparently took the viewership with her when she left CBS Evening News.

Season 48 of Survivor begins this week, and they are already working on the 50th season — or rather, they expect you to work on the 50th season. Viewers will begin voting on a special website to determine what the 50th season will look like. “There will then be additional voting categories added throughout the spring leading up to filming on the season. Some of the decisions fans will be in charge of include: ‘Idols or No Idols,’ ‘Final Four Fire Making: Keep It or Lose It’ and ‘Live Finale and Reunion Show in L.A. – or Keep the Winner Reveal and Aftershow in the Jungles of Fiji.’ However, none of the results will be revealed to the actual contestants until they are on the island playing the game.”

Supposedly, Maria Georgas was in talks to be the next Bachelorette, but they couldn’t make it happen for some reason, and that’s why they put the show on hiatus. I mean who knows. What I do know is that I will burn this place down if they make Rachel Recchia the Bachelorette again.

There were some more awards shows this weekend:

The SAG Awards Winners

The Spirit Awards Winners

The NAACP Image Awards Winners

An Oscar winner snuck a cameo in last night’s episode of The White Lotus and you probably didn’t catch it.

Oh my God, please leave Parks and Recreation in peace. We do not need a revival. … Was my first thought. But, that said, would I watch a series where Leslie Knope was running for governor set in 2025 in this timeline with this asshole as President? You know … when you put it that way …

Pepperdine University is suing Netflix over the upcoming series Running Point, claiming that the fictional basketball team stole their athletic program’s name, colors and logo.

“Fix your hearts or die.”

Sister Wives might be ending, and honestly, the most astonishing thing here is that Sister Wives is still on the air.

What is going on in South Korea that is leading to all of these young stars’ untimely deaths? (Trigger warning: this is a story about suicide.)

Yeah, the Menendez Brothers are not getting out of prison.

Severance has released an eight-hour-long playlist to soothe your Innie while they work:

Sounds like this guy is angling to be our next Secretary of the Interior.

PolUGHtics

Let’s start with a little hope and inspiration this week. Kamala Harris received the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award this weekend, where she delivered a rousing speech:

“While we have no illusions about what we are up against in this chapter of our American story, this chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office — nor by the wealthiest among us. The American story will be written by you, written by us — by we the people”

@bet

“We know exactly what to do. We use our power—we organize, mobilize, we educate and we advocate.” Our Chairman Award recipient @Kamala Harris gave us 107 days (and 30 plus years of service), she deserves all the flowers our hands can hold. Congratulations! 💐👏🏾#NAACPImageAwards #BET

President Ketchup has some thoughts about the MSNBC shakeup, you won’t be surprised to learn.

The AP has sued the administration for barring them access after they refused to change the Gulf Of Mexico to Gulf of America, which is clearly a First Amendment violation.

The big news from this weekend is that the unelected President sent an email to all Federal workers and then tweeted at them a demand that they send him an email detailing “five things they achieved this week.” And if they didn’t, he would consider it their resignation. This went over about as well as you might expect: people freaked out; some agencies, including the FBI and the State Department, told their employees to ignore Musk; other people came up with novel replies, including some code that might disrupt the spreadsheet they suspect would be used to sort the emails, or language that might confuse any AI being used to sort the emails, and others shared the email address for OPM (hr@opm.gov), so that anyone, including non-Federal employees, could share what they’ve done in case Musk might be interested. President Not the President thought this was a great idea, obviously.

@msnbc

Former federal employees from various organizations who were affected by the Trump administration’s mass firings share with @Stephanie Ruhle on @11th Hour MSNBC the significance of the work they did and their motivations for entering civil service. If you are a federal worker who has been laid off or is on probationary status and want to share your story, let us know in the comments below. #Government #civilservice #federal #politics #news #doge

And there’s so much more going on — this is just a small taste: a measles outbreak here in Texas; the head of HHS spreading COVID lies; the mob-like shakedown of Ukraine for their oil and mineral rights; the firing of two of the eight Joint Chiefs of Staff — the only ones who weren’t white men, and the firing of military lawyers; the targeting of government officials who fought foreign interference in our elections; the firing of thousands of IRS employees ahead of refund season and the blocking of funds for needed biomedical research. IT’S A WHOLE LOT.

Meanwhile, Republicans holding town halls in their home districts were met with some angry constituents this weekend and it was giving me LIFE:

@lamag

California Republican Kevin Kylie is met with boos as he announces that the Trump administration is cutting funding for the high-speed rail project linking Los Angeles and San Francisco. Despite his claim that the project is unpopular, a new Emerson College poll shows that the majority of California residents support it.

@nowthisimpact

It’s ok, you can laugh. At a town hall in Republican Rep. Rich McCormick’s Georgia district, people were more than vocal about their displeasure with him and other Republicans proposing things like cuts to Medicaid, and not keeping President Trump in check. Their booing created a wonderful symphony of resistance. 💪

@blue_eagle_1776

Yet another Republican gets booed at their own town hall! Republican Representative Scott Fitzgerald took tough questions, with many people angry about Trump’s stance on Ukraine and Elon Musk’s DOGE. He attempted to defend DOGE, but the crowd was not convinced and urged more clarity. #elonmusk #trump #wisconsin #usa #america #doge #politics #political #republican #democrat #fyp

Beautiful. Keep it up.

Additionally, let’s hear it for Maine Governor Janet Mills:

@couriernewsroom

Maine’s Democratic Governor Janet Mills stood up to Donald Trump at the White House as he threatens to revoke her state’s federal funding over her support to trans athletes.

Resistance is alive and well.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.
