Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

Before I get started: just as I was about to publish this, news broke that Matt Gaetz is removing himself for consideration as Attorney General, LOLZ. I will have more about this tomorrow, but for now: DELICIOUS.

So now that MSNBC is being separated from Comcast and shuttled into a spinoff company, SpinCo, along with E!, CNBC, Golf Channel, Oxygen, and Syfy, the staff of the cable news network are FREAKING OUT. Will they still have a relationship with NBC News? Will they stay in 30 Rock? Will they still be called “MSNBC”? WHO KEEPS STEVE KORNACKI? NO ONE KNOWS.

Related to this story is a lot of hand-wringing over the fact that MSNBC has lost 50% of its viewership since Vice President Harris lost the election. However, as an MSNBC viewer myself, I know from my own experience that a lot of us needed a break from the news after such a body blow of a defeat. Viewers will return, it just might take a minute.

Well, they might not be returning to Morning Joe anytime soon — I know I won’t be — but that’s their own fault. AND NOW THEY ARE TRIPLING DOWN? My God.

John Landgraf, the head of FX and one of the most interesting voices in the discussion of the TV industry, has noticed something crazy: people like traditional TV programming — TV shows from back in the day when writers would stay with one show over multiple seasons, and weren’t treated like garbage.

“I look at the data. I know what people are watching, and they’re watching a lot of the output of this industry back from an era when we had a profit participation model and we had people incentivized to keep working on one television show year after year after year and to make hundreds and hundreds of episodes,” Landgraf said. “It’s a challenge figuring out how to rebuild that model inside a new entire ecosystem right now. But I think the audiences tell us that that’s television. That’s something they really want from television. I don’t think we’re very good at giving it to them right now.”

Whoa, Jussie Smollett’s conviction for his alleged role in a hate crime hoax has been overturned by the Illinois Supreme Court. Long story short: his original charges were dropped in March 2019, but then a special prosecutor reinstated them and he was convicted in 2021. The Supreme Court determined that reinstating the charges violated Smollett’s rights.

These dipshits’ masculinity is so fragile, they can’t wish each other “happy birthday.” Pathetic.

Dr. Pimple Popper is real mad at Joy Behar for an easy joke.

First Cher drops an F-bomb to Hoda Kotb, and now Richard Gere is flipping off Savannah Guthrie. The celebrities are just going wild over on The Today Show this week.

The time Will Ferrell interrupted Sean “Diddy” Combs’ closed-set rehearsal at Saturday Night Live, and pissed Diddy off.

HBO is not backing away from J.K. Rowling.

Ellen DeGeneres is outta here, suckers.

Robin Williams was a mensch.

Congratulations to Blake Horstmann and Giannina Gibelli on their reality show cross-pollination love story.

Oh no, Sean Hayes, take care of yourself!

  1. Like any other divorce, NBC and MSNBC will share joint custody of Steve Kornacki, it’s just the details that need to be resolved. Alternate weeks? MWF here, TTS there? One gets him for the presidentials and the other for the midterms?

  2. I’m so torn about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. On the one hand, it was very well done and I loved it. On the other hand, it was very well done and I’m kinda glad they are just leaving well enough alone.
