Two popular shows were canceled this weekend and one was a big surprise

My heart is broken, again, after yet another mass shooting here in my home state. I don’t know what to say anymore, so I’ll leave it to Gene Wu, a Texas Democrat representing Houston in the Texas State House:

@therecount

Texas State Rep. Gene Wu has a message following the Allen mall mass sh00ting: We need g*n control, not thoughts and prayers #fyp #news #politics #political #politicalnews #politicaltiktok #texas #allenmall #texasnews #texas

And to make up for that, here is some good news out of Texas:

Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

King Charles and Queen Camilla made a cameo on American Idol following his coronation. Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were in London for the coronation concert, and I guess the royals paid back the favor with this extremely awkward bit:

Shonda Rhimes is not against making a second season of Queen Charlotte, if y’all are interested.

Fans of Netflix shows are having to try to game the system to ensure their favorite series are renewed and that’s just dumb.

Could a Star-Lord series be in the works at Disney+? I mean, anything is possible.

Tucker Carlson is “preparing for war” against Fox News. LET THE GIRLIES FIGHT.

And this is rich: Fox News is pointing the finger at Dominion Voting Systems, accusing them of leaking the Tucker clips. I get why they’re doing it: they’re trying to claim that this is a violation of the $787 million settlement. The thing is, the lawsuit is settled and there is no benefit to Dominion to leak the clips. However, there is an entity that might benefit from Tucker Carlson looking like a racist, sexist buffoon ahead of a messy potential wrongful dismissal suit.

Jeopardy! Masters, which debuts tonight, will have a slight format change: viewers at home will be able to see where the Daily Doubles are hidden, while the players will still be in the dark.

Speaking of Jeopardy! HOW DARE THEY.

Bill Hader acknowledges he owes a lot to Breaking Bad and Vince Gilligan when it comes to Barry.

50 Cent, Shaq, and Kenya Barris are now teaming up in an attempt to buy BET.

The governor of Oklahoma vetoed funding for the state’s public broadcasting network, accusing them of “indoctrinating” children because there are shows that include LGBTQ content. Also, he didn’t want Ron DeSantis to hog the limelight.

Pay your taxes, dummies.

Don’t say the N-word, dummies.

Writers’ strike update:

Stranger Things; Evil; Severance; The Hedge Knight; Bunk’d; and the Community movie have all been put on hiatus because of the strike. And over in the movie world, Marvel’s Blade remake is the first film to be put on pause.

Meanwhile, the Emmys FYC campaigns have been suspended; the MTV Movie and TV Awards became a clip show last night in the wake of Drew Barrymore leaving as host and most of the talent pulling out; and the Los Angeles premiere of Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie was canceled, as Michael J. Fox refused to cross a picket line.

Andor, meanwhile, continues production.

Disney and HBO have ordered showrunners to return to work, but showrunners are like, “WE’RE WRITERS, TOO, ASSHOLES.”

Cancellations

  • S.W.A.T. was canceled at CBS after six seasons. It’s an interesting case that demonstrates that ratings aren’t the only thing that impacts a show’s renewal chances: S.W.A.T. was one of the rare network shows whose ratings improved after moving to Friday nights. However, the cost of making the show has increased yearly for the studio, Sony, and CBS was unwilling to adjust its licensing fee to keep up. Eventually, through negotiations, they agreed to raise the fee, but demanded an episode order cut, which would have pushed the budget back up for Sony. The economics just didn’t work. Star Shemar Moore is pissed:

  • Call Me Kat has been canceled at Fox after three seasons.
