Here’s A BUNCH OF TV News

WHERE DO I START?

OK. So, right after I made my last post, Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems settled the lawsuit for $787 million dollars, though Fox News did not have to air an apology or retraction — which seems like some straight-up bullshit. They did release a statement that partially read, “We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.”

WHICH, COME ON.

For some reason, Fox News didn’t mention the settlement on air or on their website.

Fox still faces another lawsuit from a different voting systems company, Smartmatic, which is seeking $2.7 billion. It’s now anticipated they will try to settle this case as well. And in an interesting addendum to the Dominion settlement, Lachlan Murdoch quietly dropped a defamation suit against Crikey, an Australian news site for printing a column that connected him to the January 6th attack on the Capitol. Seems some of the discovery items in the Dominion case might have not been helpful to Lachlan.

So then, in a story that didn’t seem to get much coverage, Fox News and controversial weekend host Dan Bongino announced on Thursday that they could not come to terms on a new contract and he’d be leaving the network. Sure, this came out 48 hours after the Dominion settlement announcement, and Bongino was known for telling “social-media followers that Democrats were trying to orchestrate a coup during the 2020 presidential election,” but I’m sure it had nothing to do with the lawsuit because people’s contracts expire all the time right?

Well, then Monday rolled around and news broke that Tucker Carlson — Fox News’ biggest star — had been unceremoniously and shockingly fired by the network. “[Rupert] Murdoch, according to a person familiar with the matter, decided he could no longer support the popular conservative pundit. His son, Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch, and Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, made the decision to cut ties with Carlson on Friday, according to a different person familiar with the circumstances. Carlson’s exit was announced Monday morning.”

Some sources are saying Tucker’s firing had nothing to do with the Dominion settlement, but … I mean …

Interestingly, Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal is gossiping that Tucker Carlson’s show, despite being very popular with viewers, was an ad revenue loser because no real advertisers wanted anything to do with him:

There are additional causes according to other sources, including Tucker hating Fox News’ upper management, that he wanted to spin a conspiracy theory blaming the FBI for January 6th, and that some at Fox News thought he “trafficked” in “thinly-veiled racisim.” O? YOU THINK?

Or maybe … it had to do with Rupert Murdoch’s recent breakup?

Hilariously, some Fox News reporters are saying their reaction to Carlson’s firing is “pure joy.” “It’s a great day for America, and for the real journalists who work hard every day to deliver the news at Fox.”

Other people who are happy Tucker was fired? Some Pentagon officials.

(And who is having a sad? The Russians. How shocking.)

But don’t get too excited; there’s always another fascist waiting in the wings to take his spot.

As for Tucker, he himself was blindsided by the firing, and believes that it’s because the Murdoch children intend to sell off the network one day. One can dream, I suppose.

BUT THAT, SOMEHOW, WASN’T THE ONLY BIG NAME NEWS FIRING ON MONDAY. The same morning, Don Lemon took to Twitter to say that CNN fired him after 17 years.

CNN disputed Lemon’s version of events, saying that he was offered a meeting with management but ran to Twitter instead.

LOL, whatever, this was a long time coming after his misogynistic remarks about Nikki Haley’s age, his mistreatment of his coworkers, his inappropriate relationship with a younger employee, and his reported “diva-like” behavior.

Lemon’s co-hosts Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow wished him well on Tuesday’s show:

“As you may have heard yesterday, CNN parted ways with anchor Don Lemon. In a statement, CNN CEO Chris Licht thanks Don for his contributions over the past 17 years, writing in part, ‘Don will forever be a part of the CNN family. We wish him well. And we’ll be cheering him on in his future endeavors,’” Harlow said, catching the early morning audience up on the previous day’s announcement.

“Of course, Don was a big part of this show over the last six months,” Collins said. “He was one of the first anchors on CNN to have me on his show. That’s something I’ll never forget. I agree with Chris. We wish him the best.”

“We certainly do,” Harlow continued. “Don was one of my first friends here at CNN. I’m so thankful to have worked alongside him and for his support for nearly 15 years here, and I wish him all good things ahead.”

You’ll be shocked to learn that Fox News reported on the two firing stories very differently.

Meanwhile, NewsNation is interested in hiring both. (There is no way they can afford them both.)

In non-news anchors getting fired news, I have a bunch of Netflix stuff for you:

Netflix is closing down its DVD-by-mail business in September.

Your Netflix passwords will be locked down beginning in June, so prepare.

More Love is Blind business, sorry:

The heads of Netflix claim that it was a “bug” that caused the live stream meltdown.

Following a report by multiple cast members that claim the show put them through “emotional warfare,” the producers have responded by saying they have “rigorous protocols in place to care for each person before, during, and after filming.”

Netflix is committing to spending $2.5 billion on South Korean film and TV production over the next four years, more than doubling how much they’ve spent since 2016.

Oh, hey, Disney is suing Ron DeSantis.

“Disney regrets that it has come to this,” the company said in its complaint (read it here). “But having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain state officials.”

HOLD UP, WAIT. DISNEY, ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST FAMOUSLY LITIGIOUS CORPORATIONS IN THE WORLD HAS LAWYERS?  WHO WEREN’T GOING TO TAKE DESANTIS’ FUCKERY LYING DOWN? WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREDICTED THIS?

The Daytime Emmy nominations are out.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynold’s Welsh soccer team, Wrexham, had a huge win last weekend, promoting them to the next level.

Here’s hoping Bam Margera is found soon, and gets the help that he clearly needs.
